View Full Version : Does anyone here have A LOT of weight to lose?
BIG Sean Madigan Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 11:12 AM Hi,
I have a LOT of weight to lose, something like 300lbs. Is anyone here going though this as well? Sorry, its just different than having to lose 40-50lbs.
If you do, post it here and maybe we can help each other. If you don't want to post it here, e-mail me: BIGSean@CombativeSolutions.com
Thanks,
BIG Sean
Knubb Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 01:00 PM Well, I don't have that much to lose. I'm one of those 40-50 lbs guys you talk about, but I could always give you a tip.
Read John's Daily News from february 24th this year. The person mentioned has already lost a huge amount of weight, but there's a guy you could talk to for inspiration and advice.
vortex72 Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 01:37 PM I needed to lose 100lbs. I've almost acheived that. If you would like to swap ideas, feel free to pm me. See my sig for my progress
Kevinp Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 02:22 PM Hey Sean,
Welcome! I'm in the 40-50 pound group as well, but we're all doing it in little steps. If you think about it all at once, it can be pretty overwhelming.
If you break it down into smaller steps, it can be pretty attainable. Set a one month goal for yourself. Make it realistic and attainable. Then figure out how you're going to get there by breaking it down to weekly goals.
One thing that has been working for me is the "one day at a time" approach. I keep telling myself that I only am doing this for one day. Somehow that mental approach is working. When I am tempted or want to skip a workout I just tell myself that I need to make it until midnight.
This place is a great area for peer support and of course feel free to PM if you need any more encouragement.

d_samuylin Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 02:25 PM I have already lost 120 lbs (took me about 2 years to get rid of). Still have 25 to 30 lbs more to go. PM me if you want any ides.
Jingo Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 02:35 PM i imagine it must be quite different, you ask for tips and people suggest running when you find walking to the bathroom and back hard work. A friend of mine is/was working on loosing about 200lb, he went to a gym for advice and was told to start working weights and get on a treadmill, the guy totally didn't listen to what my friend was trying to tell him about what he is and isn't able to do and was told "you need to forget your limitations, being lazy got you where you are" great stuff...
He's lost about 50lb now just from walking and improving his eating a bit (tho it's psycological and he knows he still eats bad)
It's a great board here, there really isn't much sign of the ego's and competativeness you find on other boards, so feel free to look around and ask for any info you need, i'm sure many of us won't have specific info with regard to being extremly over weight, but i'm sure some will, i know there's atleast 2 people here with 100+lb to lose/lost.
Evil Hx Coupe Tue, March 2nd, 2004, 04:28 PM The starter of that thread lost ALOT of weight. Might wanna ask him about his diet and such.

It might seem like alot of weight now and that it's going to take a long time to get rid of it all, but once you get started you'll see how fast time goes by and how fast the weight dissapears.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! :tu:
Biggins69er Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 01:28 PM I weigh 280. I want to get down to 210 or so. I go nuts for week then I fall off the wagon. I get into my bad habits again. I know what I have to do but it's very hard. Any suggestions?
lordscarlet Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 01:42 PM Don't go nuts. Go semi-nuts. Do what you know you can stick with. If that means having a chat day or doing something else that isn't "perfect", then do it. Just make sure the next day you're right back to your routine.
heppy23 Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 02:26 PM I've got a lot to lose.
I went to the gym for the first time since September (I'm not a winter person).
I had a nice swim then weighed myself. I am currently around 330 pounds, the most I have ever weighed.
I'd like to get down to about 230.
One of my big gremlins is that I have a 1 1/4 hr each way commute each day and I snack a lot.
I'm off to the gym tonight to do some cardio and book a new assessment.
I guess I need to spend a good day reading stuff on here to get inspired!

That is the key, ask nicely, do not try to change everything, or do too much at first. You do not train for a marathon by running 26 miles on the the first day. For those that are way overwieght, perhaps we train by simply walking to the end of the driveway and back. Listen to you body. If you make small changes, adding exercise and cleaning up your diet and you consistently do this, your body will change. Bettter still, over time these changes become ingrained as habit.
Where people fail is they change too much, going on the strict diet, doing 2 hours of cardio everyday, etc. or they are not consistent, they let it slip away.
As you make some small changes and keep at it, you will get more energy, you will feel better and better about yourself and your body will lose the weight. It took a long time to get that heavy and it will not come off overnight. Make small weekly goals, (go to the gym everyday, eat clean, lose 2 pounds) and keep at it.
Best of luck and keep at it.

I heard a pretty smart doctor say it on tv once, if you want to lose a lot of weight and KEEP it off, there are only 2 options.
Option one is get a stomack stapling done, the other is lifestyle change. If you are not willing to do second, you have to consider going under the knife.
Changing your lifestyle can be easy, if you do it in small steps. Something along the line of first, not driking any soft drinks, only water. Then start working out and slowly swap out white bread to whole wheat, etc etc.
Jim Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 03:30 PM I'm trying to ultimately loose 70lb. So yeah. I started off at 270. I'm 247 now.
seatguru Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 03:54 PM I started at 375. Finally hit 338. I'd like to see 215 someday. Diet and excercise are very important. But the foremost importance should be educating yourself. Learning from other peoples mistakes and talking with people. These forums have tons of useful information and a great deal of people willing to help and/ or listen.
I started all wrong..( Atkins) and my body was the first to let me know. I lift as much as I can 3 days a week, I bought a stationary bike and ride it. I sometimes have to endure some pain and soreness, but I love the way I feel when I'm done.
Set small goals and overcome them one at a time. If you want it, do it and I will be happy to talk to you. We can share goals, ideas and maybe educate each other.
PM anytime you want.

I couldn't have said it better myself. One day, one step, one pound at a time!
BIG Sean Madigan Thu, March 4th, 2004, 02:58 PM Hi all,
Thanks so much for all of the positive feedback. This forum is amazing. I know how much I weighed when I started, and I am resolved to not weigh myself more than once every couple of months. The numbers are simply to depressing. I've started doing aerobics, and I am lifting weights now as well.
I will PM a few of you folks...thanks again.
BIG Sean
