Hi, I just joined two days ago. I am 49, 238 pounds, 5' 4" tall. I have been weight training for 10 months 3 X's a week, 40 minutes each. I have just begun to really see muscle definition for the first time in my life. I am so excited to be on this journey!

I would love to be down to a size 8 eventually. My biggest fear is:

Will I really be able to get my great figure back? I know I will never look like I did in my 20's, but I will be really disappointed if I don't look great after all this hard work and time.

Thanks for all the great information I have seen on these forums. I plan on coming back for more.

Thanks everyone.

Two questions for you.

1. Have you seen a change in your figure in the last 10 months other than muscle definition? (I.e. fat loss, weight loss, looser clothes, etc.)
2. Are you a female? Your ID says "male" but you posted in the female section and refer to your "figure" and "size 8" which sounds more female to me. I ask because it helps to interpret your statistics you give at the beginning.

Welcome to JSF Forums. Glad you're here. Sounds like you're making good progress. I have found this community to be a great source of education and encouragement -- I hope you do to. Keep us updated on your progress.

Yes, I am female. I just found it in my Profile and made the change.

Oh, yes. I have seen a big change. I have lost inches in my chest, back and arms. My stomach is where I carry most of my weight. That is finally starting to come off. I am sure I have lost about 30 pds of fat and have gained about 20 lbs of muscle. I plan on keeping it up. I have a great trainer. That has been a great help.

I think so, yes. I've seen some amazing transformations in these forums. Take a look around. Keep up the good work, and you'll be stunning on the beach before long. You can do it. :tu:

Hey Cathy~

Welcome! I have been working out and enjoying exercise for the past year. I started at a size 20 and am down to a size 14....it takes patience and dedication....both of which I can lack at times!

I am also in Austin! Can I ask what gym you go to? It could be fun to have a workout buddy who is also a member here.

I hope you can take a picture now, even if you don't post it. When you are a few sizes smaller, you'll be glad you had a "before" picture. In fact, don't even look at the picture for a month or two, but if you take it -- you'll be glad you did.

Hello and welcome. I am new here too.

I too started at size 20 last Nov.( as someone stated above) and through clean eating, lifting and some cardio got to size eight. I actually didn't believe it when I went into a store with a friend( a store I could never shop in before) and started trying on clothes.
Then I still didn't believe it and had to go to other stores and try on thier clothes. Still size 8. I bought MEDIUM tops for the first time. No more 1x, 2x, xl.

I still don't believe it!!!

I am 37, 5'5", weigh 155 but started at 210. ( want to be 140. Size 6 would be nice) I have no hips at all so that may have helped me get into a smaller size.

You will get there. GOOD LUCK!!!

Thank you so much. That is very encouraging. I was hoping for some feedback like this. Thank you.

I know I won't look like I did in my 30's, I hope to look better!

You can look every bit that great if you want to.

It's simply a function of how bad you want it. I'm of the opinion that anything's possible, and I bet you can come within a stone's throw of your figure from 20 years ago IF you're willing to dedicate yourself to that goal. So... how bad do you want it?

It'll take time. It'll take blind faith that what you're doing is going to work - I think faith (and this is coming from an Atheist) is the most important facet of a transformation now. It takes faith and vision to see the person you want to become and the body you want to live life in. It'll take consistency in your efforts. Planning. Dedication. Perserverance. It can seem daunting, but it's really not if you break your overall goal down into smaller, "bite sized" pieces. Milestones will come and go, and in short order, you can be where you want to be. There's a lot more to reaching a lofty goal... I am of the opinion that everyone should aim higher than they think is achievable because it will push you further than you thought you could go.

This is a good place to be to achieve those lofty goals.

Thank you. I agree. I have been doing this for approx. 10 months. I haven't been very good with my diet, but I never stopped the weight training. Because of the consistent weight training I have made tremendous progress and I feel great. My stamina is better than when I was in my 20's. I feel muscle strength all over my body. Now I am ready to go back to eating correctly. My body gets hungry when I don't eat every 3 hours. I know I can do this.

I am currently weight training 3 X's a week and cardio 3 to 4 times a week.

I am definatly on my way.

Will I really be able to get my great figure back?

Hello, and wellcome! :tu:

As many people stated before, there are many inspirational success stories on this board. With that said, I would also suggest you take a look at Justitia's thread 'fit women over 42 on parade' Link Here (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=10747). You'll surely get your question answered! :D
