View Full Version : Tabasco Tuna
robguy Sat, January 24th, 2004, 05:29 PM Add tabasco sauce and spicy salsa to your favorite can of tuna. NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART! Its a great small meal for cutting:
-Take 1 can of tuna
-Add red or green tabasco sauce to taste (I include both)
-Add a couple of tablespoons of Salsa
-Spice it up with some cayenne and black pepper
-Add mustard
* I sometimes put this on a couple of slices of flax bread or multigrain bread.
Its a good thing to eat when you're on the go and tuna is a great, low cal. source of protein.
Salsa is also amazingly low in calories, and spicy foods can have a thermogenic effect!
Enjoy
Jim Sat, January 24th, 2004, 07:33 PM I think I'll give that a try :)
haven97 Sun, January 25th, 2004, 09:20 PM I use just tabasco and tuna and eat it with nothing else.... the people I work with think I'm crazy but it helps kill the tuna taste. Good to know I'm not the only one that likes this
John Stone Sun, January 25th, 2004, 09:47 PM I've eaten a can of tuna every single day for over a year... and straight from the can with nothing mixed in. Not only am I not sick of it, I actually look forward to my can of tuna every day. I swear, I'm such a creature of habit; when I find something I like, damn it, I stick with it!
Of course now it seems that I have to worry about mercury poisoning... :(
Glamdring Sun, January 25th, 2004, 10:59 PM You go a little crazier with your tabasco tuna than me. I don't have the same tuna more than once a week. :) One day will be regular, another tabasco, another lemon, etc. etc. It's not that I dislike normal tuna, it's just that I have a habit of getting sick of things very quickly, so I proactively assist myself in creatively varying my meals.

I'm going to quote you on that one;) Classic ;)
tantan Thu, February 5th, 2004, 02:32 AM Hmmm.... Tuna...
I never lilke anything that has a fishy smell... In fact, I stay away from Seafood becos of this fishy smell. But after reading the "good Stuff" about Tuna, I have decided to give it another go. Just bought myself 1 can and will try it out as Tuna Sandwich tonight.
Wish me luck... :eat:

There's at least 3 applicable varieties of Tabasco: Red, Green, and Chipotle. I like to spice it up (OMG, I'm sorry!) and switch around between the three, Chipotle being my current favorite. For those not in the know a Chipotle is a dry roasted Jalapeno -- so the sauce has a smokey flavor that's quite nice.
When I get tired of that I'll throw in some Wasabi. It's easy enough to find Wasabi-in-a-tube (at least, in San Diego).
It's not exactly sushi, but it's close enough!
Now if only I could figure some soy sauce into my diet...
citrixmeta Wed, February 18th, 2004, 12:34 PM that was good!!!

bov07 Sat, February 21st, 2004, 08:00 PM Wow, that was delicious. I've never had a problem with just a plain can of tuna, but at least now I can have a little more variety. Thanks! :tu:
robguy Sat, February 21st, 2004, 08:15 PM Huge bump on the Chipotle Tabasco....Wow! This is rediculously good stuff, It definately adds a nice hot flavor to anything you put it on.

Yes, I do have 1 bottle of each kind of Tabasco, why do you ask? :o
Oh, and stay away from the Tabasco Soy Sauce... that's just confused.

Not sure about the States, but in Australia John West do flavoured Tuna's called Tempters. Admittedly they contain more fat than normal tuna, but MAN they're nice!!! I love the Chilli one...... I've been eating it for around a year too....and I look forward to it EVERY day.
