View Full Version : will I get any taller?
BoxedMigration Mon, July 11th, 2005, 10:52 PM I'm about 5'9 / 5'10 and I'd like to grow a couple more inches and get taller. I'm 19 years old, 186.5 pounds and I think I'm between an endo/meso, but I want to be a bit taller. Since people say I have a big head, I would like my height to at least complement that.
Is there possibility that I will still grow? Is there anything I can do to aid growth (or anything to do to NOT stunt it). Since I'm cutting I hope that the low calories, about 1700-1800 won't stunt my growth.
Thanks for any feedback!

You have 5-6 years before you can be sure you've stopped.
Jaybird Mon, July 11th, 2005, 11:29 PM The male body doesn't stop growing until it's about 27 years old. You may not grow much taller beyond 20, but your shoulders and hips will continue to fill out until around 27.

Agreed, and I have known several guys who grew a few inches after 23. In one case my "beanpole" friend went from about 6' 130 to a lean 6'3" 195 in about 18 months between 23 and 25. Oddly, he was not working out -- guess just genetics
PeteBDawg Wed, July 13th, 2005, 01:35 PM You can improve your posture; that will virtually make you taller.

Wow, if I gain another 3" and 65lbs in the next 18 months I will crap my pants, then buy new, longer ones. :D
I haven't grown much since about 21 or so, but it does happen, as her example illustrates.
When i graduated high school I was 6'4"-6'5" and now I am right at 6'7", just barely fitting under doorjams. So, at 19 there is a good chance you can get taller, but, just in case, you might want to start to like being 5'10". When we are talking about people living in developed countries, it's mostly genetics.
The posture idea isn't bad either.

thirtysomething Wed, July 13th, 2005, 03:47 PM This thread reminded me to do something last night...
My Dad has always been about .5 inch shorter than me and an inch shorter than my mom. He has never slouched. About six months ago, we were comparing his height to my brother, who is still growing. I noticed dad was taller than me... I have not shrunk. So last night I took out the tape measure, just as we often did when my other brother was growing - he is almost a full inch taller than he was 30 years ago... He is 64. Somehow in the last year or so he has gained (not re-gained!!!!) an inch. As I said, he has never slouched and I personally have measured him before. I don't think it's possible to "grow" at 64, but I sure cannot think of any other exaplantion
edit: as for my friend who exploded in size. He has two older brothers who look like Norse gods and had similar growth spurts, so I guess it's mainly genetic. I suppose looking at your amle relatives will give you some idea if that's likely ;)
Lost Wed, July 13th, 2005, 07:01 PM id like to be a few inches taller (im 5'10").. luckily at my age theres definitely a good chance i will have some more growth.
looking at both sides of my family though it makes me doubt it. my moms side, most people are shorter than i am. my dads side, from what ive seen they are about the same/slightly taller, my dad seems to be one of the tallest among them at 6'1". my mom is 5'4" herself with mostly shorter people on that side as mentioned.
either way, ill just have to wait and see. definitely a bunch of growth years left for me.
Wasted Wed, July 13th, 2005, 10:07 PM I'm only 5'8" at nineteen years old, and I have basically given up on being any taller. I remember being in highschool around freshman age and wanting to be about 6' tall. While I think that would be too much for me, I've always wanted to be at least 5'10", which is my fathers height. From what you all have said, I still have a chance for an inch or two. But my advice to you would be to accept your height. 5'10" is not short, and someone like me would trade for it right now. Just accept it, and if you get taller, then woohoo, and if not then its no big deal.
