bradh Thu, July 7th, 2005, 12:40 PM There not accurate, you have to be tested by a gym or other institution or buy some bodyfat capliers.

there are sno stupid questions only stipid ansers lol :p .
you can do a visual bf analyasis but tht is erm..less than accurate. i suggest you invest in a bf caliper, you can get one for less than £10 on ebay. and they are very acurate just grab as much as you can from 3 diffrent places and away you go lol.
txitalian Thu, July 7th, 2005, 01:26 PM In my opinion, accuracy isn't nearly as important as consistency when it comes to BF measurements. If you get it done by a trainer at a gym, make sure that you go to the same trainer each time. There are various websites that will calculate it for you, even though I think they tend to show it as too high. Pick one method and stick with it.

I concur,
Even if your BF% number is not accurate, as long as you are consistant you will see results.
For example, I dont think my calipers are accurate, but im getting really good at using them and do 3 sets of measurements at a time and can get within 1%bf difference total. next time I measure, im down 2% with a 1% difference in possible error, im still down 2% which rocks.
I used to measure myself with a myo tape, I was only taking 3 measurements, but im not allways going to lose weight from those 3 places, in fact, the last month, all my fat lose has been in my lower legs and forearms.
sc7389 Thu, July 7th, 2005, 01:45 PM Some calipers will measure your bodyfat for you (as people above me have said). You can buy some from ebay (as mentioned above) or you can order them from bodybuilding.com (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/acc/accu.html). In fact, I just ordered one for myself yesterday.

StoneGRMI Thu, July 7th, 2005, 02:35 PM The best was to determine BF% is not to do one at all IMO. Unless you are competing in a show who cares about numbers? Look in the mirror! :tucool:

Well, no problem -- but what are you reading it as? Given that I'm a cook who lives in Brooklyn, it just made sense at the time. :)

I read that Tanita scales for women average 7% higher than you actually are, it could be even more.
