carpediem Wed, January 21st, 2004, 10:54 AM I found it at a Swedish version of Fark (http://www.fark.com)called buzz (http://buzz.bazooka.se)about 2 weeks ago. Been coming almost every day since that to watch John's progress and to get inspired.

Since then, I've been reading about his transformation and investigating what I can do to get in shape. Another good research is the forum and articles at bodybuilding.com.

Matt Gordon Wed, January 21st, 2004, 12:06 PM What HT forum was that? AVS?
Hi Chris. It was the HTF (http://hometheaterforum.com).
Here (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=177016) is the specific thread to which I was referring.
Andrew M Wed, January 21st, 2004, 12:15 PM I found a link on the fitness boards at menshealth.co.uk
The wife and I have taken great heart at the success that is obviously possible.

Chris Wed, January 21st, 2004, 01:22 PM I started visiting his site about half a year ago because a friend recommended it for motivation, I still look at the site atleast a few times a week for inspiration.
corbint Wed, January 21st, 2004, 01:32 PM I honestly dont remember how I found the url! Ive been visiting John's site daily since the first week of November. His site, and willingness to respond to emails, etc, is what prompted me to get off my butt and get in the gym.

How did you find out about this place?
The best/worst site on the web... http://www.fark.com
I am motivated to get going on making a new me. Thank you, John, for this inspiration.
escher Wed, January 21st, 2004, 06:26 PM I'm pretty sure I found the link on the Mens Health magazine message boards. I was skeptical, but I was blown away by John's transformation. Truly inspriational. Got me starting a program!
NME Wed, January 21st, 2004, 06:29 PM Like a few of you, I discovered this site from a link on the bodybuilding.com forums. I was pleased to discover that John uses a lot of the same principles in his training that I do myself. I was never in the position to see such amazing results, nor was I ever particularly motivated to strive to achieve my goals. After seeing John's results, I had all the motivation I needed; I knew that following my plans would yield results. So far, so good. :)
So there you have it. That's why I'm here, and I plan to stay as long as John does.
taffer Wed, January 21st, 2004, 07:12 PM i found this site from http://forum.bodybuilding.com which is another great resource for people wanting to lose weight/bulk up, or just live healthy!

JCMF Thu, January 22nd, 2004, 11:41 AM Signing in from Portugal, and I found the link to John's website, amazingly, in a portuguese Hardware/Software Forum...
I have been greatly inspired by this website, no just to emulate his deeds, but to show myself how strong our will is...
Congratulations!

matalo Thu, January 22nd, 2004, 03:26 PM Must blame fark for me finding this site. However, it was an omen. I had already decided to join Weight Watchers and the club started on Tuesday. Turns out fark came out with his site on the same Tuesday. I saw his transformation and said to myself, this is an omen. You are destined to lose weight!
Jeannie Thu, January 22nd, 2004, 03:59 PM A friend that I work with sent me the link. We were discussing getting in shape and then he emailed me the link to John's before and after pictures and needless to say that inspired me.
Jingo Thu, January 22nd, 2004, 07:02 PM the before and after pics were on a web log i read, nothing at all to do with fitness but it still got posted.
I think the great thing about the coverage Johns got is how many people outside fitness are comming here and getting inspired, most of them would probably never have visited a fitness site.
Haircut Fri, January 23rd, 2004, 03:02 PM I first found it through a thread at a forum I regularly visit back in May last year.
Link (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=1045594)
I had been trying to lose some weight for a while and seeing the progress John made enabled me to motivate myself better.
I am now about 35lbs lighter than when I first read that thread.
Flay Sat, January 24th, 2004, 06:51 PM John's thread at the forums at Anandtech.
I've lost 22 pounds and dropped from 22% to 12% body fat over the past 6 months. :db:
BrianC Sun, January 25th, 2004, 03:02 AM I also found his site through the bobybuilding.com forums, been visiting it since May.
BrianDaHoss Sat, February 7th, 2004, 01:25 AM bodybuilding.com back in June...
marcus Sat, February 7th, 2004, 01:50 AM bodybuilding.com back in June...
Similar....Bodybuilding.com in July, been visiting the site a couple of time a week since then.
Marcus
Berran Sat, February 7th, 2004, 03:00 AM A couple of friends and I were discussing our workout routines about 8 -9 months ago in IRC, and one of my friends linked the site, and I checked it out, then quickly bookmarked it.... This was back when John was still in his cutting phase... After that I checked the site almost every morning since, to read John's motivational morning updates! =)
Skipernicus Sat, February 7th, 2004, 10:09 PM Oh, I'm an internet stalker!
Actually, I found it one day by searching for other people's home theater setups. I built mine on the cheap, and i wanted to see how it stacked up...
I believe you cannot have a home theater without having a home gym. I mean, if you're going to be sitting around watching movies, you need to do something, right?
Although mine has plenty of bass response, i covet John's subwoofer.
unlevel Tue, February 17th, 2004, 11:57 PM Wow, am I the only one here from cgtalk?
www.cgtalk.com
Specific thread is: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116197&highlight=hero
Suprised there isn't more of us here, a lot of comp geeks there who seemed interesting in "getting back into shape"
for those of you here related in the computer industry, cgtalk is one of the largest forums out there for Computer Graphics, specifically 3d...
:flex:
andy_W Wed, February 18th, 2004, 05:19 AM I folllowed a link from a golf equipment forum - www.4gea.com
They were discussing Darren Clarke's recent weight loss, and someone posted a link to John's site. That was in early Jan 04, and I've been a regular visitor since.

BRobinson Wed, February 18th, 2004, 04:23 PM I came through Fark, and was completely shocked by Johns progress. At the time I had just started to prepare for a High Scool senior boys competition (bodybuilding + talent). Through John I realized just what I needed to do to get where I wanted to be in time for the competition. Now I've lost 14lbs of fat since since 1/22/04, 40lbs period since May, 2003, and am still going strong. Thanks John!
Fudgam Wed, February 18th, 2004, 09:06 PM I was referred by a member at www.short-media.com
dingomick Fri, February 20th, 2004, 12:14 PM I'll add a new one here: www.collegehumor.com.
They publish a list of "HotLinks!" of funny and amazing stuff from the web. John's link was listed as: "I officially proclaim this guy King of New Year's Resolutions."
I was astounded. I've read every word on the site (it's hard to keep up with the forums though). As a fellow geek, I more than appreciate his detailed tracking and analysis of tons of information. Information density of this magnitude is orgiastic.
John's helped inspire me, and although I've been a long time fitness guy, I'm deeply grateful for seom of the legwork he did with research, spreadsheets, and such. I'm also excited and thankful that he seems to have reached a niche demographic that is usually not at all interested in good health. Thanks John!
Jaydar Culexsis Sat, February 21st, 2004, 08:24 PM I found out about from the Metallica forums. Someone there posted a link to here.
fluke Sun, February 22nd, 2004, 06:13 AM I found about it by reading a post that I think was his in bodybuilding.com forums. I think its pretty sweet that I found this site and these forums at a time when I needed them, and yet so close to the forums opening. This is still fresh, but I feel may grow just like us.
I was already training and thinking about eating smart. I was just overloaded with information. I found this site, and and John's story. Well, heres a guy who clearly has already done the research The site was just his story and routine, and he had results! After reading Max-OT and HIIT, i understand the principles and believe that they are effective. I have started training on both. After reading these forums and analysing his diet, I adopted it and just changed it a little.
The first day hurt me, but I can do this. I will slim down and grow.
It has already begun!
houtexan26 Thu, February 26th, 2004, 04:58 PM His link was posted in the newspaper the Houston Chronicle in Janauary 2004. And then a couple of weeks later his link was in an e-mail from FHM.com. The tag line used was tied in with New Year's resolutions and losing your gut.
venky_rs Thu, February 26th, 2004, 05:41 PM "Yahoo! picks" once featured this site and I followed it.
LiveWire Thu, February 26th, 2004, 06:19 PM A friend emailed it to me because he knew that I was dieting and trying to get in better shape. Not quite sure where he found it, but I am glad I am here. It is a great motivation to see what is possible.
dbo Sat, March 6th, 2004, 01:41 PM I found it on Fark the day after John's anniversary. I usually don't look at all of the Fark links but I just happened to come across this one that day. I'm glad I found it!
Amino Sat, March 6th, 2004, 02:18 PM I read it in the forums at wannabebig.com, I found wannabebig.com through a search on google specific to dieting.
Glad I found it. As soon as I did I put it in favourites and watched Johns changes...
Amazing.
Southpaw Mon, March 8th, 2004, 03:46 AM I saw it at www.sportbikes.com in a post by a guy that couldn't believe the change so fast. Made me think i may even be able to pull something like this off if i tried =)
born sleepy Tue, March 9th, 2004, 02:50 AM someone posted a link to here in misc.fitness.weights awhile back when I was reading it for a few days. I hate that newsgroup, though; nothing but flame-wars. ugh. but I'm glad it got me here! otherwise I'd probably still be flailing around trying to get in shape mostly by accident.
jmcalla Sat, March 13th, 2004, 08:07 PM "Yahoo! picks" once featured this site and I followed it.
same here
Brian Sat, March 13th, 2004, 08:21 PM From a thread on Bodybuilding.com as well as the Home Theater Forum (the HTF was where I first learned about this site). I've been visiting John's site off and on since he first posted it (been visiting it at least three times a week since he reached his goal; now I'm visiting once a day). Now I'm getting up off my arse and doing what's necessary to lose the last 45 lbs. to get to my goal.
bloggins02 Sun, March 14th, 2004, 08:15 PM Fark is my friend :)

transformation of the month winner
i think john should update again
i think he would win it again..
wh0rume Mon, January 31st, 2005, 03:23 PM I googled something july 04 about.. something nutrition-wise.. i think i was trying to figure out calories that i should be eating for my weight, etc.
It directed me to the forums, then i found the main site, then i found his food logs and pictures - came back everyday after that.
Lucky13MN Mon, January 31st, 2005, 03:49 PM A buddy I work with found it when John first started posting his transformation pics... he emailed me the website to check it out.
badgolfer Mon, January 31st, 2005, 04:25 PM yahoo pics. i cant believe more people read fark than yahoo. i guess yahoo pics werent too poplular because i dont see the link on the homepage anymore.
wh0rume Mon, January 31st, 2005, 04:31 PM just as an FYI in suppliment to badgolfer's post: i've never heard of fark before reading it on this thread today :) maybe its more popular in the UK?
jtelling Mon, January 31st, 2005, 06:23 PM I'll add a new one here: www.collegehumor.com.
They publish a list of "HotLinks!" of funny and amazing stuff from the web. John's link was listed as: "I officially proclaim this guy King of New Year's Resolutions."
Yup, same here. I remember seeing the before and after at the time and thinking "whoa..."
Since then I'm down roughly 40-ish pounds - who says the internets aren't good for you? :)
Human Clay Mon, January 31st, 2005, 08:03 PM Found it from here:

(The good news is that they believe you, John  )
FionaMaeve Mon, January 31st, 2005, 08:58 PM About a year ago on Fark. I never go to Fark anymore, but I'm still going here (after a short hiatus).
woodenkey Mon, January 31st, 2005, 09:21 PM Mine was purely by accident. I wanted to see "Before"/"After" shots of people and so I tried searching Google with general names and before/after. I tried: Bill before after weight loss, etc....and then I tried the name "John" and wa-laa. lol
Moveon Mon, January 31st, 2005, 09:30 PM ABCBodybuillding.com....of all places. That's a pretty serious crowd over there. The poster on ABC was almost apologetic for mentioning John's site.
Ask me when the last time was I was at ABC. Go ahead...ask. Never mind asking, I'll tell you. Months and months. I'm here every day.
never2old Tue, February 1st, 2005, 06:37 PM I don't remember exactly. I know it was in early 2004. I am almost sure I read about it in a Houston Chronicle article. The photos were amazing, convincing, and inspiring, along with everything else John had said on-line up to that time.
I even registered, and memory nags at me, fuzzy, but I believe I even posted once or twice. But I don't remember what name I gave myself, or my password! (I hope John purges member names for those disorganized and forgetful souls like me! :o )
But I didn't visit again for months, until late 2004 or even New Year weekend of 2005. This time it was just by memory suddenly serving me instead of tormenting me: I just remembered, "Johnstonefitness."
I won't forget this time! I expect to stay joined with this movement much more closely from now on. -Martin
gravityhomer Tue, February 1st, 2005, 07:15 PM I found it through a blog that was actually making fun of John over a year ago. And since I clicked on the link I've been hooked on JSF ever since.
About a year ago on Fark. I never go to Fark anymore, but I'm still going here (after a short hiatus).
Glad to see your visiting again, Freemason. :tu:
Jim Fri, February 4th, 2005, 10:40 AM The health section of a Final Fantasy forum.
causticmuse Fri, February 4th, 2005, 10:52 AM 1FastGTX referred me to the site after I posted a question about bulking on a BFL Yahoo message group. :)
Gohan Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 05:43 PM I got here from a post on the Men's Health message boards in late 2003. How about you guys?
1FastGTX Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 05:48 PM Someone posted a link to his www site years ago in a BFL Yahoo Group I am a member of. This was before he had his forums. I remember being super impressed both by John's transformation and by his awesome daily picture archive. I would visit every so often, until one day I saw he had his own forum. :)
chicanerous Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 05:54 PM I can't even remember anymore. :( It wasn't through Fark or Men's Fitness or the bodybuilding.com write-up. I think I may have just stumbled on it randomly while looking for fitness information.
sc7389 Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 06:15 PM I don't really remember how I found it, but I'm glad I did. :tu:
Gohan Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 07:17 PM John-
Thanks for merging the thread. I thought there might be something like this out already, but I couldn't find it. :tu:
Butterflyer Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 09:17 PM I found it as twowiresthin.com before there were forums, sometime in 2003. I guess I found it searching for fitness sites.
I joined the forums in 2004, but used my last name as part of my login name and never posted with it. :o
sc7389 Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 09:48 PM Anyone remember members when they were newbies? I do. I remember when Doordude just joined, and when chicanerous had like 200 posts. :D
JoeSchmo Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 09:48 PM I was googling various fitness info, and links to this site kept popping up...so I checked it out and signed up (you used to have to be a member to access certain forums). I thought I'd mainly be a lurker so I just picked the first handle that came to mind...but here I am, more than a year later. :tucool:
chicanerous Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 09:55 PM Anyone remember members when they were newbies? I do. I remember when Doordude just joined, and when chicanerous had like 200 posts. :DI remember chicanerous when he had 200 posts. His advice was whack! Well, not really, but I don't completely agree with all of it anymore. ;) I'm sure that's the case with a lot of us.
I remember when doordude first joined too. Actually I remember not liking him! But, he grew on me quickly and I've learned to love the ol' bugger since then. ;)
TarSeal Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 10:10 PM I honestly can't remember exactly how I found the site. It either had to be google searches or a BB.com post. Probably googling something supplement related. I know I was floored by the site though.:)
sc7389 Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 10:47 PM I remember chicanerous when he had 200 posts. His advice was whack! Well, not really, but I don't completely agree with all of it anymore. ;) I'm sure that's the case with a lot of us.

Haha. Well actually, I did listen to your advice. I remember you were like the only one who replied to a thread I posted (I don't remember what about though). I remember you had an avatar of some kid in a funny hat with goggles (I think) sitting on a beach or on snow or something like that.
chicanerous Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 11:18 PM Haha. Well actually, I did listen to your advice. I remember you were like the only one who replied to a thread I posted (I don't remember what about though). I remember you had an avatar of some kid in a funny hat with goggles (I think) sitting on a beach or on snow or something like that.
 Yeh, that was me. Well, whatever the advice was, your fitness has turned out good so it can't have been all that bad! ;)
Anyone else want to jump in here and reminisce?
JoeSchmo Sat, December 3rd, 2005, 11:42 PM Funny -- I remember Chicanerous's avatar too when I first joined up .... It looked like some anime chick or something. I also remember thinking "wow, that is the smartest 17-year old I've ever seen. At least 50 times more informed than I was at that age". :tucool:
I remember when doordude first joined too. Actually I remember not liking him! But, he grew on me quickly and I've learned to love the ol' bugger since then.
I remember awhile back suddenly noticing DD's postcount and being a little shocked. He had like 3 times more posts than I did and had only been on the board a couple of months. :spaz:
Solid0Snake Sun, December 4th, 2005, 07:28 AM I was googling 'workout progress pic' and found it.

Yea that's the pic. Wow this brings back memories. :D
gravityhomer Sun, December 4th, 2005, 01:06 PM I remember chicanerous had a nice acrobatic strength pose as his avatar for awhile.
This was mine for the first six months
Bart Mon, December 5th, 2005, 01:36 PM I read an article about John in the swedish newspaper aftonbladet (http://www.aftonbladet.se) about two years ago.
/PJ
TheRyanator Mon, December 5th, 2005, 01:53 PM I dont remember how I found the site, but undoubtedly it was from a bb.com post or something of the like as I was a lurker on several boards prior to this one. I think I have been around JSF now for at least 2.5 years...I remember when John was really skinny...but still looked good since he had lost so much weight, but I was actually just thinking this morning looking at his DEC. pics that he looked sick when he was skinny compared to now...
My post count does not reflect my time around the boards as I am rather sporadic in my posting. Sometimes I post very little other times I post quite a bit...lately I have been getting my kicks around here just watching DoorDude stir it up and how he and Wh0 go back and forth...
My screen name was the first thing that came to mind as a co-worker of mine at the time had just called me that...
airforcePTL Mon, December 5th, 2005, 02:01 PM I found it while searching for the recipe for protein pancakes. What luck!
ShadowPenguin Mon, December 5th, 2005, 02:21 PM I remember when doordude first joined too. Actually I remember not liking him! But, he grew on me quickly and I've learned to love the ol' bugger since then. ;)
yah me too, it was called last Tuesday. :D i kid! i kid! one of my fav. JSF'ers he is.
I found JSF thru a site i used to Mod on, Xeebra.com a techie website. I modded (and probably still do come to think of it) our Gettin Fit board cuz i thought thats an important topic in the heavily junk food'ed world of computers. I had been working out for a couple years already so i had made some progress, mostly mass, still lots o' body fat, and one of the other users posted a link to JSF to check out Johns progress.
been hooked ever since.
Chopaholic Mon, December 5th, 2005, 04:10 PM goodness.
i can't even remember.
i remember duckman and andi, though.

Monkey0ne Mon, December 5th, 2005, 04:26 PM I was doing some online "pre-shopping research" for new rack or smith machine and someone mentioned the CONAN CN1. 2 weeks later, I googled (or did I Yahoo search? Can't remember) and found John's site and learned about the TITAN. Been hooked ever since! :tucool:
wh0rume Mon, December 5th, 2005, 04:37 PM + back when i first joined, i thought TheLemonSong was a fitness expert because he had so many posts.
i felt "honored" to have him reply to one of my threads
+ i also thought 1fastgtx and swolecat were "too big", but now it's where i'd like to be somday.
+ chicanerous never had 200 posts.
he always had above 1000 for as long as i can remember, he's been here a while.
+ doordude is pretty new here - i never noticed him until i saw his progress pics.
+ i thought petebdawg was 70 yrs old for some reason.
phillydude Mon, December 5th, 2005, 04:54 PM what is this John Stone Fitness site you all are referring to?
I only came across this site because I was looking for new avatar pics of wh0areume.

This is really funny. When I was new here, everyone else was too and no one had 1000's of posts. I wonder what the new people now, think when someone with 1000's of posts responds to them.
I remember when Duckman made a morph between his face and johnny depp's because people tell him they look a like. A few people gave him a hard time about it and got banned. I think it was the first banning.
I remember when Swolecat first came on the scene and ruffled some feathers, by bringing a more bodybuilder mindset vs fitness. He had a big following with his clients (supirman and others), and the forum, at least the nutrition and weight lifting section became a little divided between swolecat dogma, as put forth by his clients rather bluntly and other users. John actually had to step in some to keep things in check. Swolecat was gone for a while and of course has come back with avengence. I definitely think for the better.
I remember when the first sponsor was added and the flak John took.
I remember when wh0uareme, had 50 posts, and, jerry seinfeld was his avatar and he made reference to a certain laser precise yogurt over and over again.

If I remember correctly, he DID look like Johhny Depp? Or was it that HE thought he did and everyone else thought he didn't?
I'm confused.
But to reply to the thread topic: someone posted a link on Craigslist for JSF and was asking about John's tan/hair/haircut/boxers at the time.
wh0rume Mon, December 5th, 2005, 07:04 PM i havnt been here long enough to see much from duckman.
Cziffra Mon, December 5th, 2005, 07:05 PM TheLemonSong was the first one ever to reply to my first thread asking for advice, only to tell me against fasted cardio due to the catabolism danger. Another member, don't remember who, agreed with him. I believed them, but kept doing my fasted cardio because I liked it. Running was a goal itself.
LarryNC Mon, December 5th, 2005, 08:52 PM First time I ever saw this site was way before the forums and john was just starting his program, I opened the page from menshealth.com and saw pictures of an over-weight guy, I looked at the site for a minute then I left. I then came across it months later, and to my surprise the same guy was getting more toned up and then I book marked his site because I looked around the site and began liking it and wondering why I didn't look around more back when he first started. :D

I remember when the forums had no sponsors! I left before wh0 joined. I came back over a year later and resumed posting. I have like 12 posts before I left. I had pretty much nothing to contribute to the forums back then.
gravityhomer Mon, December 5th, 2005, 11:19 PM If I remember correctly, he DID look like Johhny Depp? Or was it that HE thought he did and everyone else thought he didn't?
Well he sort of looked like johnny depp.

Most people I think knew he was just messing around, but some people thought he was serious and gave him a hard time.
But actually he looked a hell of a lot more like Kevin Smith.

Duckman was from the company that did a complete redesign of the main site. Remember the rain like background that John's main site use to have? anyone?

Chameleon Tue, December 6th, 2005, 03:53 PM Bluestreak told me about it... I had seen it up on his computer screen dozens of times before I asked him about it and he sent me a link... he had mentioned it a few times before he sent the link too, I just hadn't really been interested, until I came here and saw how positive it was... I used to log in to BB.com but it was so negative in there that I couldn't stand it and quit going to that board.. I'm really glad I decided to check this site out :tu:

I dont recall exactly, I just remember he posted some pics of his house and I thought it was a pretty sweet place...he really seemed to be living the great bachelor life...I know he is still around here at times...it would be good to hear from him.
Also remember Supirman...I think he may have gotten himself banned on purpose because he thought he was spending too much time on the boards at work and not getting anything done. I thought I remembered it being a self destruct type of deal...I am sure the thread it went down in is around still somewhere. I wonder how his marriage is going, I think he was supposed to be married by now.

He seemed to be doing good and is still lifting. :tucool: I didn't ask him about his marriage or his JSF ban, of course.

Mick Mauldin Wed, December 7th, 2005, 10:54 AM I found out about JSF by a guy who suddenly sent me a message on Yahoo Messenger. His screen name was/is "spiritual matters". I've only heard from him once since then. It's kinda weird as hell actually. So, if anyone knows who this cat is, let me know...Mick
