so I have been looking back at my last 2 weeks of eating I wrote all down calories etc.. and I have noticed I am eating about 1300 - 1700 being the highest the average being about 1400 calories..

I am 163 pounds 5-8" and am 30 years old with about 22% BF..

I have been working out for about 2 weeks now..
before this I would always eat about 2 meals a day or 3 and about 1000 - 2000 calories maybe.. never been a heavy eater.. I gained weight due to alcohol, not moving and eating pizza and fried chicked for my meals..

anyway I eat clean now.. about 5 meals day 3 of them being solid..
I through in some whey pre and post workout..

anyway I weight myself today I am 167 pounds I have gained 4 pounds
but the thing is.. I have lost weight around my love handles and chest.
but the scales and going up not DOWN!! all I care about is this little gut hanging over my belt when Im sitting down IT NEEDS TO GO!!
I am a beginner maybe I am gaining muscle while I am losing fat???
what you thinks happening?
or is my diet screwing me up?
im doing cardio 4 or 5 days a week. about 45-60minutes
weights 3 days a week,,

A couple of thoughts for you -- first, to check on your diet and nutrition, read Marcus's post at the top of the "Fat Loss" forum. It is the best guide for nutrition for fat loss I've seen -- for beginners. That will really help you think about how much you should be eating. Second, your weight going up. The scale is notorious for being a poor gauge of fat loss. Beginners especially will gain muscle quickly while losing fat. So, the scale will stay the same or even go up -- however, you should notice that your clothes are looser. You're losing fat. If you lose a pound of fat and replace it with a pound of muscle, here's what happens --

Fat is much lighter than muscle per volume. So, a pound of fat takes up a lot of room while a pound of muscle is pretty small. Look at John Stone's pictures at 190 pounds going down in weight, and coming up in weight -- big difference even though it is the same weight. You can stay the same weight, even gain weight, and you're making good progress toward losing fat. Remember -- the goal is to lose fat, not to lose weight, there is a big difference between the two. If you just want to lose weight, that's easy -- stop eating! Losing fat is much more difficult.

Hope this helps.

Glad you're here. Welcome to the JSF forums. Keep us updated on your progress.

With this in mind you should be eating around 2,400 calories a day with your activity level.
I have been working out for about 2 weeks now..
You've made a good decision; keep it up :tucool:
I gained weight due to alcohol, not moving and eating pizza and fried chicked for my meals..
But also from not eating often enough causing you to lose muscle and your metabolism to slow.
the scales and going up not DOWN!! all I care about is this little gut
Don't worry about what the scales say so much. It is possible for some people to remain the same weight or even increase in weight while losing fat at the same time (quite rare tho).

I doubt your gaining muscle on that amount of calories but it could be possible due to being new to lifting and/or being genetically gifted.
what you thinks happening?
I think it's most likely you had extra water in your body at the time you weighed yourself.
Having said that, despite what you're seeing in the mirror it may be possible you gained some fat if your calories were very low prior to changing your nutrition. Introducing a higher amount of calories suddenly can cause excess fat storage. Probably the water thing though :tu: . Make sure to weigh yourself at the same time every day/week/month to best ensure your progress is being tracked properly.

If you havn't read them already, there are several "sticky's" at the top of the cutting page you should read. Also get yourself some body fat calipers to track your progress much more accurately.
