View Full Version : Sweet taste in mouth/on breath?
slk41 Wed, July 6th, 2005, 01:33 PM I am just wondering what this could be? I've googled it and came up with diabetes sites but I really don't think that is the cause as I have no other symptoms that correlate. I've read that serious fasting can cause a fruity breath that smells bad, but I am keeping my carbs/proteins pretty close to 40/40/20....would that cause it?

You could be in slight ketosis. Normally, ketosis is when you are carb-deficient, but people can still enter ketosis when they are burning a lot of fat. Are you burning a lot of fat? Losing weight rapidly?

I am losing but not rapidly - about 1 - 2 lbs a week so I don't think it's too extreme. Maybe I should up my calories and see what happens? I am at about 1100- 1300 a day now.
When I first started losing I lost pretty rapidly, about 2-3 lbs a week for a month and didn't have this. But I wasn't working out as much either.
The only thing I'm really doing different is the am cardio daily where before it was on my in-between days only.
I wonder if that is to cause?
Jaybird Wed, July 6th, 2005, 02:08 PM A.M. cardio on an empty stomach will put you into ketosis. You might have nailed it. That, and low calorie intake.
akm3 Wed, July 6th, 2005, 02:19 PM Interesting! I had that sensation some last week where I just had this odd/bad taste in my mouth that wouldn't go away. It coincided with a pretty significant weight drop I assumed was water (Was it really fat?)
Perhaps I was in Ketosis.

Well, I will try upping my calories a bit - maybe 100 or so and see if that works. Otherwise I'm not sure what to do because I love my am cardio - it really gets me moving and awake.

Now, that'd be cool! To think it was water weight loss and to find out it was fat. I'd take it!

Don't worry too much about it--ketosis is you burning fat. Stick with the morning cardio, add a few calories, and see what happens.
