View Full Version : Severe Headache- Need Help!
owachi13 Mon, July 4th, 2005, 09:48 PM I think I have a migraine headache. If it is a migraine it is the first one I have ever had in my life. I am 25 years old and male. This episode started last week on Wednesday with severe stomach cramping and nausea. Also had a painful stiff neck (which I thought I may have injured doing squats, but now I don't think so). This lasted 2 days. Then on Friday, I began experiencing a minor headache, which I immediately took Excedrin Tension Headache while still at work and it seemed to take care of the problem. Then on Saturday, I had the most painful, disabling headache I have ever experienced. I once was knocked out by a baseball to the head and when I woke up had a really bad headache, but this was much worse then that. Mentally I was so irritable and aggressive that I truly was dangerous. I felt as though I had lost control of myself mentally. My father has recently had a knee surgery, so while at his house Saturday he gave me a Darvacet (prescription pain pill). This did not even touch it. Zero relief. So a few hours later he gave me a Loritab. This helped a lot. The pain was still there, but I was able to function at least. That night the headache went away. Yesterday, the headache came back again during the afternoon. I was sweating, and had cold chills and then I would be burning up, but with no actual fever. Again the Loritabs helped. Again the headache went away last night. Again the headache has come back this afternoon. This time the Loritabs are not providing any relief, and this time I actually do have a fever. Fever of 101.4F. Able to break the fever with Tylenol. Now just in a lot of pain. I have read a lot online and feel that this all adds up to a migraine. I am just concerned with the fact that it has come back 3 days in a row. Is this normal? If this happens again tomorrow, should I see a doctor? I know there is no cure for a migraine, but does it point to something more if it keeps coming back every day? Any help/advice is appreciated...
Jaybird Mon, July 4th, 2005, 10:56 PM First step, see a doctor.
Some of your symptoms do sound like a migraine, but these don't typically last for more than a day. I'm beginning to think a little that you might have a concussion. You mentioned you felt it in your neck, and that you may have hurt yourself doing squats. It doesn't take much to jar your head and get a concussion. The symptoms you described lasting for a few days are signs of a concussion. I'd go see a doctor asap.
1FastGTX Tue, July 5th, 2005, 12:34 AM Have you been doing anything different lately with diet or supplementation? I found that one particular brand of NO2 gave me a throbbing headache EVERY DAY at about 4pm. The day I got off of it I didn't have a headache.
I also get bad headaches somewhat frequently and Alieve is really the only cure I've found. I have to take FOUR of them though. Phenergen (perscription) helps too, but makes me EXTREMELY drowsy (I slept about 13 hours, woke up and felt terrible).
My advice would be yes, go to the doctor.
Wilderbeast Tue, July 5th, 2005, 06:24 AM I would see a doctor. I allways have alot of visual disturbances and never have a fever. Once its gone its gone never to return unless i am low on blood sugar and staring at a VDU. Bad monitors can trigger migraines for me if the refresh is low. More than a couple of hours sleep of being sick clears it for me

thirtysomething Tue, July 5th, 2005, 07:09 AM Please see a doctor to rule out anything serious :) Hope you are feeling better soon.
owachi13 Tue, July 5th, 2005, 09:00 AM Stayed up most of the night with extreme cold chills. I have not added any kind of different supplementation, but my diet has been very poor for the past week compared to what I normally eat. I am going to the doctor this morning. I pray this isn't something serious. Thanks for everyones replies.

owachi13 Tue, July 5th, 2005, 03:08 PM Well, went to the doctor. Went over all of my symptoms, they ran bloodwork and several other tests on me. Bloodwork came back normal. All the tests come back negative. The doctor said everything pointed to me having some sort of viral infection somewhere in my body and that could have triggered the migraine. I would just have to ride it out. Which is cool. I can handle that a lot better than all the stuff family and friends were laying on me about aneurisms and spinal menengitis and all that scary crap people who care about you lay out there when they are worried about you. He also said that by me running a fever that indicates I am probably at the end of this. He said with viral infections, by the time your body starts running a fever, its usually almost over with. And, it is 2:00 and so far no headache, which is great. Appeciate those who replied and everyones concern. You guys and gals are what makes JSF great! :tu:

owachi13 Thu, July 7th, 2005, 11:21 AM Just a brief update. I am better today and seem to be continueing to improve each day since Tuesday. I am back at work today, so hopefully this phone will not ring of the hook and drive me crazy....boy that is wishful thinking. Only thing I abnormal recently was I woke up at 4 a.m. this morning SOAKED in sweat. I had to get up and change clothes and bedsheets. I think I may have finally broke this nagging low grade fever that has persisted for the past few days. Looks like whatever it is, my body is finally kicking it's ass and making some headway. Now, time to brace myself for the day at work. Thanks a million.
