Ok, so most of you probably already know how to calculate this, but I haven't been able to find an answer even though I've been searching.

I'd just like to know: how a person can find out how many grams of fibre he/she should be consuming on a daily basis? Thanks in advance for the help. :)

The ideal number thrown around is usually 40g/day.

25g but more doesn't hurt anything.

Hmm...I just got two completely different suggestions. Doesn't it depend on how many calories a person consumes in a day?

I just quickly breezed through the nutrition section of my text to find the reasoning for fiber intake. It mainly listed the role that fiber plays in health. I knew that I had seen that number somewhere, and was just about to believe that I must of seen it somewhere else when..."Daily diets should include 25 grams of fiber"

Fibre definitely is dependent on how many calories you eat per day. The recommendation from Health Canada for total fibre is 14 g of fibre per 1000 kcal, so if you're eating 1500 calories, 21g should be fine.

I used to think that whole grains were the secret to increasing my fibre intake, but if you eat your 5 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, you'll make your target (an apple has 3 grams, a banana has 2 grams, whole wheat bread has 2 or 3 grams).

Thanks Guava! It makes sense that the intake amount depends on the quantity calorie intake. I didn't know so muc fibre could be provided through fruits and veggies along though! Yay, 'cuz I'm in love with those! :claplow:
