I am curious if any of you have dealt with anemia. I know it is fairly common in females. Anyway, my GF has recently been diagnosed anemic and it is just getting worse. That can't tell her what is causing it. I am thinking it is partially diet, but she has changed that already. If any of you have dealt with diet related anemia did it take a while for it to rectify itself even after changing your diet and supplementing? Thanks

I also was diagnosed with anemia. My doc told me it could be because I wasn't getting enough iron in my diet, or that my body just doesn't absorb iron. Taking iron supplements will fix the anemia if her body can absorb it, but if not I believe injections are the only way to fix the problem. Having it injected directly eliminates the middle-man, sorta.
I was given 6 iron injections to fix it, and so far so good. ( I do NOT recommend the injections unless she absolutely needs them - they cause what looks and feels like bruising, but it's been there for over 2 years now. It fades, but it sucks )
I'm not sure how long it takes to be considered not anemic anymore, but I definitely felt better within a couple of months. Hope that helps!

my iron level had gotten really low, I think about 5. I didn't want the iron supplements because of possible side effects-constipation being the major one. I opted to eat more iron rich foods and take a daily multivitamin with iron. It took a little over a month (maybe two), but my level went up to 10. So now I'm border line as they like for it to be 12 and above.

Is anaemia something you can get rid of?
I had it as a teen and I'm not certain if I still have it or not, I still get tired pretty quickly but I'm sure most of thats because I rarely do CV.
I thought if you were anaemic you were always anaemic just less anaemic if you improved your diet...

I think it depends on the type of anemia...a common type is iron definciency anemia, and that can be cured just by elevating your iron levels - either by diet, supplements or injection. There are other types of anemia though, that I believe don't have anything to do with iron levels...so you may want to figure out which type you were diagnosed with, and go from there.
Iron deficiency anemia can be cured, like I said, but some people are always susceptible to it. So make sure you get it monitored every year or so, to make sure you're still on track.
