is sugar free koolaid a diuretic?
one packet koolaid and splenda and water... would this lead to dehydration? would it count towards your water intake?

no caffeine means no diuretic right? That's always been my concensus.

Sugar free Kool-aid is awesome. Used to have that all the time back when I lived at home.

I have been drinking koolaid at work since the spring since I did not want to drink hot teas during the warm weather and was tired of drinking water. I wanted some flavour. Recently I have noticed that I have been feeling thirsty all the time, so today I did my 'diuretic test.' I waited until I was sure I was dehydrated (highly concentrated urine). I then drank about 10 to 12 oz of orange koolaid. The next time I urinated, a couple hours later, it was void of colour. This is not normal. I was dehydrated and should not have had to urinate yet. I am now going to have to flush my system with water and wait for my body to break down or get rid of the diuretic component. By this evening, I should be hydrated again. It will be nice to get rid of this headache.
By the way, Grape koolaid has the same effect. I make the koolaid from the little packets and add sugar. Since it is hte flavouring that is the diuretic -- it is not the table sugar -- sugar free Koolaid will have the same effect. The more you drink, the more you want to drink. Nice.
As well, vitamin C is also a diuretic, so caffine is not the only one.
I will have to stick to water, juice and herbal tea from now on.

Not so. many other things are a diuretic: alcohol, cranberry juice for starters.

Yes, but how many people drink alcohol or cranberry juice to rehydrate themselves? Koolaid is quite popular especially for kids. And my little unscientific experiment (anecdotal evidence) points to it being a diuretic.

I down diet soda like it's a godsend. I wouldn't worry about it, just drink more water throughout the day if it bothers you.
