View Full Version : Question for those who have used or are consuming Glutamine
Sweet_16 Thu, June 30th, 2005, 02:13 AM Well, more particularly, this question is for people who also have had cravings or sweet tooths. I have heard from many reliable sources that Glutamine helps curb cravings for sweets. I'd just like to know if it has proven to be true or helped anyone here on the boards stay away from sweets.
Hope to hear a response soon! :tucool:
Solag Thu, June 30th, 2005, 02:24 AM Hmm. I take 2 teaspoons a day. One in the morning and one with my after workout shake...sometimes at night. I havnt had any craving for sweets. I used to eat lots of chocolate. actually i havnt even thought about it. O boy I hope I didnt jinx myself
Kino Thu, June 30th, 2005, 06:44 AM I've heard alot of claims about Glutamine (which I'm not getting into again) but have never heard about it possibly curbing a sweet tooth. I'd be interested in the "many reliable sources".
1FastGTX Thu, June 30th, 2005, 07:01 PM Glutamine curbed my cravings because after wasting my money on it I couldn't afford any candy.
In all seriousness I am not yet sold on this supplement.

hahaha. I don't take it anymore. supposed to aid recovery, but I'm dubious.
Jude3085 Fri, July 1st, 2005, 09:50 AM I've also read that it curves cravings for sweets, but forgot where I read it. Glutamine is a funny supplement IMO, I've done some research it and it mainly has to do with timing for it to have substantial effects. It goes like this, cortisol is an enemy of glutamine. It depletes it. The only way to get a effective supply of glutamine to the muscle cells is to take it after a workout when you create a spike of inslun, which is glutamines friend and transports it into the muscle cells and cortosil is at its low.

I've never experienced this before personally, nor have I ever seen a credible source make this claim about Glutamine, maybe it has a placebo affect, the old mind over matter trick...
cabeasle Fri, July 1st, 2005, 12:16 PM I've been taking Glutamine for a few weeks now, and besides not noticing any respectable difference in my recovery (don't think I'll be buying it again, personally) neither has it curbed my appetite for sweets. I'm still addicted to the stuff. The hardest part about watching what I eat is trying not to snack around on candy and whatnot. My mom is a district manager for Russell Stovers (a fancy candy comp.) and our backroom is always full of boxes of the stuff.... makes life hard. Glutamine hasn't helped me to stop eyeing it at all... Took a long time to develope the will power. I now limit myself to about 1 peice a day. Just enough to make me happy, but not to really affect anything healthwise
Sweet_16 Fri, July 1st, 2005, 06:08 PM Oh well, if it's the type of thing that only works because ones mind is being fooled simply into believing that it can curb cravings, then I might not take it. I don't feel like it's necessary in my cutting regimen. Staying away from sweets isn't that bad, I just find healthy replacements as a means to not disturb my cutting plans. I guess reading all those claims made me believe it was a magic cure or something, lol. :p
Thanks for the replies guys! :tu:
