I just got a big box of Dextrose from Kent today. Now I go on to read that I should also add Maltodextrin to this to further enchance my bodies absorption abilities, so now I'm going to have to find a good place to get that ;) But my main question is, everything I read seems to recomend mixing protein/dextrose/etc. in water for best absorption. In my oppinion, milk tastes "much" better to mix the protein with, and makes the whole process of an everday POW much more enjoyable. Would adding all of this to milk slow down the process much? I know milk has a very low GI. Has anyone ever read anything about this before? I'm expecting the answer to be "stick with water", but still, I figured I would ask just in case since milk is so much better.

As an aside: I just read an article on the AST Sport Science web page (the MAX OT guys), and it was about a recent study done that shows honey to be just as effective if not more so than Maltodextrin in gearing up your nutrient absorbtion post workout. Just figured I'd mention it incase anyone wanted to give it a try. I think I'll go ahead and use honey until I can find a good supplier for malto. Honey's awesome, so now i have an excuse to have a spoonful on occasion.

You don't HAVE to add malto to it, but it's my preferred method.

Water is the preferred PWO liquid over milk. However you could probably get away with mixing the two just so it tastes a little better. If you are not planning on competing, why gross yourself out every day? IMO it would be better to find something that works but still is decent enough to do every day. It might not work as well as "the perfect PWO mix" but I think the more perfect solution is the one you will continue to do and one that won't make you puke in the sink.

For example I had a great "DWO" (during-workout) drink going but it tasted horrible. So now I'm experimenting with Gatorade and malto mixed together. Might not be the perfect combination but it's better than gagging on the squat rack.

When I was bulking, I made my PWO shake with whey, milk, dextrose, and sometimes a banana. Sure, this isn't what the pros would do, but I wanted to enjoy the taste and reward myself after an intense workout. Some say that milk can bloat you, but I didn't notice much and I really didn't care since I was bulking (but now that I'm cutting, I use water again--just doing an experiement with water retention). It's important to only use skim milk because fat can interfere with the carb-effects on your blood sugars. Lactose is a carb, but not as high GI as dex, but it isn't bad, either. Just make sure the majority of your carbs in your PWO shake are from the dextrose.

1FastGTX made a good point--if you aren't competing, why suffer through the bad taste?
