eh, 8 pounds per gallon.

Most water I ever drank before getting too full was 1 gallon + 1 liter, in 3-5 minutes, wasn't cold tho.

 don't do that either

Heres what it says. I highly doubt i would have died lol But I never even knew that it was possible

They call it WATER INTOXICATION or more technically HYPONATREMIA. It happens when the body’s balance of salt and water become quickly diluted. It affects the production of nerve impulses, and impairs mental processes. Cells take on extra water and expand. As they swell, they put stress on the body’s organs, particularly the brain, which has little room to expand within the skull. Sometimes Hyponatremia is caused by an underlying medical condition.

Hyponatremia isn’t unique to the military. Indeed, marathon runners, tri-athletes, even high-desert hikers all can succumb. “Most people aren’t aware of the risk of drinking too much water,” said Bob Murray, director of Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Sport drinks are engineered to replace both salt and fluids depleted during exercise. Drinking sports drinks can help; but it alone can’t maintain adequate sodium levels for people engaging in rigorous, endurance–level activity.

The point is you need to replenish not only the fluids you lose when you sweat, but the salt as well. Nothing that comes out of your body is pure water. So you’ve got to replace it with both the salt and water, Not Just Water.

Water Intoxication typically occurs over 4 to 6 hours or more. It attacks participants in High–Endurance events, such as marathons, long road marches and triathlons in which participants swim, bicycle and run long distances in non–stop succession.

But look at the good side though, researchers found that drinking cold water (ice-cold preferably) will increase metabolism briefly in order to warm that water you just drank

when i go to parties, i bring a 24 pack of 20oz waterbottles.
i drink em down as fast as i can.

my sternum (sp?) and ribcage usually starts to hurt the most.
you're definatly right about the balloon analogy.

Do you have a special harness that you use to carry all those bottles of water? That would be a pretty good conversation starter..

We see folks in the ER (Emergency Room) every so often with water intoxication, often marijuana smokers who are trying to "flush" their system because they have a drug test coming up.

Some die.

But how much water is too much??

You have to really try to get water intoxication. Don't worry about it, just don't try to drink two+gallons in a very short period or something crazy and you'll be fine.

"Normal" levels of drinking water for us bodybuilding types aren't a risk.

Just thought I'd chime in. Drinking large amounts of very cold water can cause mild hypothermia symptoms also, as the body tries to heat all that water. Think how many BTU's it'd take to heat a gallon of ice water on the stove.

I also heard that it's dangerous to slam really cold water in hot weather or surroundings. Cold water gets absorbed a lot faster.
