View Full Version : what do you do when you cant workout?
bb7_rider Tue, June 28th, 2005, 07:46 AM Long story short out riding the other day and I went over the bars in a section of track you get to 80 km/h on easily, I dont actually remeber it but I ended up in the hospital in a neck brace getting xrays of my chest, back and shoulders done, blood tests for internal bleeding, and for some reason they put me on a drip. :d_confuse The way i figure it out is i went into the ground head first (my helmet will back this up :S) flipped onto my chest or something and in the process my bike flew over me cause it ended up a good 30m down the track past where I stopped rolling, as a result of this I got a dislocated shoulder and now cant use my right arm so I wont be able to do any workouts for ages, cant ride either, no broken bones which is lucky as I've broken wrists twice in less serious crashes and its not fun. :d_frown: To make matters worse I cant even do cardio cause my chest and sides are still so sore :d_redface also up for a new fullface helmet which wont be cheap, funny thing is in the hospital I just said bike, they assumed I meant moto, by my injurys I think, when I told them it was just a mtb they were shocked :o guess I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on the computer and ps2 and at least trying to eat right, what do you guys (and girls :) ) do?
thirtysomething Tue, June 28th, 2005, 08:19 AM First off, glad you're ok, relatively speaking!
I'd give your body time to heal. When you're able try to walk around and do some light stretches in bed. I hope you have access to a physical therapist that can design a plan for you to keep your muslces in decent shape but not strain your recovery. If you don't already, be sure to ask for one :gl:

I think you need to give yourself time to recover, keep your diet in check. Can you walk with out any discomfort? Maybe go for a gentle walk to keep active.....Just dont rush back in and do yourself harm! :tu:
bb7_rider Tue, June 28th, 2005, 09:43 AM walkings not too bad, somehow got a massive bruise on the side of my hip too and its a bit sore but i can walk fine, thats a good idea when it stops raining / snowing / whatever the weather wants to do, its crazy at the moment, snow but its not cold enough to settle so theres just slush everywhere, not pleasent walking weather :D
Visteon Tue, June 28th, 2005, 09:53 AM Be brave...........step out into the cold.....Or maybe take this as a short break from your routine??
dledeaux Tue, June 28th, 2005, 10:55 PM When I first got into fitness I used to be paranoid about what would happen if I took time off. I thought in one or two weeks I'd lose all my progress or give up working out. This never happened. Now I wind up taking a week or two off once every couple of months and I'm still making progress.
bb7_rider Wed, June 29th, 2005, 10:51 PM thanks guys :) shoulders feeling a little better today, should be ok in a week or two, probably leave shoulder workouts for a while tho so i dont strain it too much
