View Full Version : ARgh!!! MyChicken spoiled
Jbroad572 Mon, June 27th, 2005, 03:18 PM  I paid close to $15 for a package of chicken breasts. The date said best if used by or froze the 28th of June. Well, I take it out of the refrigerator after 3 days and it smells like spoiled milk. Argh!!!! I was tempted to cook and eat it anyway, but better safe than sorry. I can't go back to Sam's for awhile and that was my source of protein for the week.
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant, but I feel a little better... :(
quackvader Mon, June 27th, 2005, 03:31 PM w/ chicken I always freeze it, then thaw it later, even when I know I'll eat it w/n a day or two.
I can always thaw it out, I can't unspoil it.
Had a few situations like you did so I've adopted the better safe than sorry approach. I've even froze them for a long time too, and they are still just as good.
vatechguy Mon, June 27th, 2005, 03:32 PM If you bought it at Sams - take it back man.
Walmart and Sams are called the evil empire - but they got there with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Unless you left it sitting out on the counter for 3 days - theres no way it should have gone bad that fast.
:gl:
(Rotten chicken is pretty gross smell - but I've never heard it referred to as spoiled milk - odd)

I don't think I can take it back. I already put it in a container, where I was about to do the marinading. I smelled it and was like, ah well it can't be that bad. But, I called my mother and asked her about it and she told me, whenever I get chicken in the future don't store it in the fridge if I won't be preparing it within a day. Ah well... lesson learned. I got one more pack, I can unfreeze. So, after thinking was it worth possibly getting sick, I decided to just throw it away. :(
Jbroad572 Mon, June 27th, 2005, 06:23 PM Nevermind... :o
I took it over to my mom's and let her smell it. She said, "Boy, ain't nothing wrong with this chicken. There's no foul smell to it."
I asked her, if she was trying to kill me, she gave me a crazy look...
I told her if I eat it and die then.......
She's been cooking for 40+ years, so I will take her word for it. I guess I kinda exaggerated when I said it smelled like spoiled milk, but didn't know what else to associate it to. Guess it's just the smell of chicken. Never left it in the fridge for a few days before though. So...?
Ah well!
Master Moron Mon, June 27th, 2005, 06:30 PM Maybe it was the container that you put it in that smelled bad...

Your mom sounds like a wise woman.
Stecman Tue, June 28th, 2005, 01:06 AM Sounds like a good premise for a sitcom. Too bad Raymond and Sienfield isn't running anymore.
