I have a question for the nutrition gurus out there. I am employed with a company that has me working with the Italian military and I eat in their mess hall. Their culinary fare is quite different from American fare, fish is a option at both lunch and dinner. Anyways I am eating six small meals a day and having canned tuna for 3 of those. The tuna is packed in olive oil, which I squeeze out from the tuna can. I am used to tuna packed in water and wondering if you can eat too much tuna?
Also when they have salad they just put a sprinkle of salt a little olive oil and a squeeze of lemon, I asked them about salad dressing but they thought it was freaky that you would put blue cheese on salad . Seems like this limited cuisine is doing me good since I have lost 25 lbs in the last three months. :eat: Just wanted to say this site is a great motivator, Ken

If you ask me, Italy is culinary heaven. Olive oil is a great source of fat, but I think 3 cans of oil packed tuna might be a little excessive (I think anything in excess, besides sex of course, should be questioned). Are there any other types of fish available? Is all the tuna packed in oil? Can you get access to other meats? Can you cook for yourself?

By the way, salad with salt, olive oil, and lemon is how I always have it, and I live in the states.

Most of the tuna catch has some small amounts of mercury. Since I read this, I try to keep my tuna to 2-3 times per week. Heavy metals of any kind stay in the body and so it accumulates over time.

Here is a table w/recommendations on tuna intake.

Yes they have other types of fish, some that I have not seen before and I do alot of ocean fishing (marlin, dorado, tuna) when I am home. They also have squid soup with peas, which I have not really acquired a taste for yet. So I am eating about 25 cans a week, at 50 grams a can that would be 1250 grams a week. I guess I need to check the Mecury info a little closer. Did have some killer roasted bell peppers (red and yellow) that were brushed with a little olive oil. :eat:
