on a healthy diet?

I was reading a thread in the off topic forum about it and seems so many have this as part of their daily diet. I always thought all coke, including diet and zero was not good. Is this a misconception? What exactly in it can be harmfull considering there are no calories and now caffine.

Also would this count as water as well? (monitoring water intake)

Sodium, caffeine, and artificial sweetners. But I don't care about that stuff. No calories, no problem. But it's not water.

I try to consume no more than 2 cans a day. One in the morning when I get to work to give me a little kick ... it's my coffee. And another when I eat lunch. Other than that water all the time, or maybe sugar free kool-aid. I don't have anything against aspartame though.

you might in another 20-30 years when you end up with cancer.
go the splenda route if you're going to drink diet coke. (splenda diet coke)

EDIT: there is nothing currently linking aspertame to cancer. that is just my assumption.

caffeine dehydrates you and artifical sweetener + fizz makes you retain water. Plus there are potential long-term effects due to the artifical sweeteners.

Nope, nothing beats the old plain water. Like mentioned above, these beverages contains; sodium, caffeine, and artificial sweetners. Some may claim that they are caffeinine free but so far, I haven't seen one that is sodium free.
The other reason why you shouldn't make these bverages as your regular drinks is that because it does exacly the opposite of what plain water does. Instead of hydrating the body, it dehydrates is. Effect on a diet, well you'll retain more water weight.

I would say there is just as much evidence linking splenda to unhealthy side effects as there is aspartame.

If it does have negative health impacts then I am just SOL - I have been drinking diet soda by the gallon & quart since equal was FIRST released around 1983. I do not drink as much as I used too - but that is only because I am busy drowning myself with a gallon of water a day - I won't have a soda until I get that gallon in.

Artifical sweetners have been linked to cancer in rat experiments. However, the dosage needed to provoke tumors was incredibly high...more than you or I could consume in a life time.

Check it out. Unless you're drinking more than 28 cans of diet soda a day, I think you're ok.
