This is something I have been wondering about, because I see some people drink fast carbs during a workout. Is this really good for you? What are the pros/cons?

Thanks.

I drink a shake with a weak mix of maltodextrin, dextrose and protein right before I lift. And there are those that advocate drinking something like that (or Gatorade for example) while lifting. Figure out what works best for you.

Now, during cardio- no- not if I'm trying to lose weight.

It depends on the length of your work out.

I drink Gatorade during my workouts, I think it helps, at least for me.

I drink a shake of 36 grams of dextrose and 36 grams of protein while training (both cardio and lifting days).

For the past 10 weeks I've been cutting after a looong bulk, and my current goal is to reduce body fat while preserving muscle mass. I believe a high GI carb and protein shake while training helps me accomplish this goal. I also consume a pre-workout meal (tuna on whole wheat bread) approximately 1.5 hours before training and a post-workout meal of a low GI carb (usually more bread).

Here's a link to an article written by Layne Norton, an accomplished natural bodybuilder. In the article, he discusses his reasoning for a shake while training...I think you'll find it highly informative:

Yes, a maltodextrin mixture would be ideal during a workout. Carbo Force, for example. Or mix malto in some Gatorade even.

Sole -- yeah Layne is really cool. Did you see this website yet?

Nice! Thanks for passing along that link. I always find Layne's information very informative and helpful. I've modeled several components of my training after his and always found his advice to be spot on and effective.

LOL! No it's a big fat piece of steak! I didn't eat all of that in one meal though, in case you were wondering! :eat:

Thanks for the compliment bro. If I could only get Layne's abs..... hahaha! BTW have you seen his posts on bodybuilding.com and anabolicminds.com? He's always really helpful.
