View Full Version : did i stiff leg deadlift correctly?

i tried stiff leg deadlift today for the first time ever.

i just started working out again a few weeks ago after a few months of break from playing sports..

i thought i did the lift correctly.. it all looked good from what i saw on the internet.. straight back, i stretched and tried to touch my toes going down and i kept the bar close to my legs.

i feel like my lower back got a much better workout than my hamstring. i dont feel like i hit my hamstrings at all. is this because i have a very weak lower back that needs to catch up or wrong form? is this normal?

i didnt really push myself either. i wanted to get the form down so i went about 6 reps of what seems wouldve been my 8 rep max

i tried at home with some lighter weights before i went to the gym and i noticed i bent my knees a little at the bottom because im not very flexible. could this have anything to do with it?

I have this same problem. To this day, I'm pretty sure that I've never done a stiff-leg deadlift properly.

Did it look like this? (http://www.tn.no/assets/dokumenter/markløft.mpg) You don't have to touch your toes! Clench your buttocks as you go back up as far as you can. Hope you didn't put to much weight on. It's supposed to work your middle back along side glutes and hamstrings, but with correct form these will get the roughest time.

you've gotta stick your chest out and keep your shoulder blades pinned back. you should undoubtedly feel a stretch in your hamis if you're doing it correctly.

Yep, if you aren't feeling it in your hams you aren't doing it right.

At the bottom of the movement it should feel like your hams are going to rip off your legs.

Man, I'm confused. That video was a Stiff legged deadlift? Looks like a regular Deadlift to me.

Yep, it was. But even though it says stiff legged, your suppose to bend a little.
