So another great success story I wanted to share from all this work I've been doing...
Played softball last night on the city league team - I've played for years and always been one to just place the ball -- I've never been one for power.
At bat in the 2nd inning, I just took a nice solid swing (didn't force it) and hit a line drive over the centerfield wall. 3 RBI's, just like that.
Next at bat, same thing except I whacked it and it nailed the fence.
Guess what happened on my next 2 at bats? 4 straight balls.
I have NEVER been intentionally walked and I would never have guessed that I ever would!

Nice. I can't seem to hit for power at all. I just pop out when I swing for the fences. I smoke the ball but its always a line drive.

I've been hoping and hoping to see lifting positively affect my batting in softball, but that fact is it hasn't. I'm still way too inconsistent of a hitter.
Throwing, however, has improved a good bit from lifting.

yeah bat speed is king in softball. There is this skinny kid in our league that hits bombs consistantly

Softball has gone downhill unfortunately. The fact that a small guy can "hit bombs" totally messes up the flow of the game. It used to be that only the big guys, which every team had maybe 2 of, would be able to really hit the ball out. However now the bat manufacturers have come out with bats that have so much pop to them, a smaller guy my size could blast one out. My father used to be ranked in the top 50 in the world, and played on world championship teams back in the late 80's - early 90's. Not to mention my family owned and operated a Softball Park in Northern Kentucky. Everyone loves to hit the long ball, but when every player on the field can hit that long ball, the game becomes a bit off. There are tournaments that limit homeruns, or only allow certain players to hit homeruns, but that only puts more danger on the infielders who have to react to a line drive hit off one of those bats. I personally think the game would be much better if they could go back to the older bats, ones which made you have to have both strength, batspeed, and very intense concentration to hit a homerun.

agreed. I'm in the everybody sucks league, so not too many homers. Just alot of deep popups. They are slowing down the bats a little it seems that the list of illegal bats gets a bit longer every year.......
