I have decided over the next few weeks or so to give up my cardio exercises at they gym. Being that summer is in full effect and I get some exercise from golfing and doing yardwork I just cant get motivated to use the ellipticals right now. I have decided to just keep up on a 4 day weight workout and continue to eat properly. I am trying to cut for the most part. I am really trying to reshape my body. Move the bulk from my waist and put it into my upperbody.

Is this a feasible route to get my intended results? I know cardio is important but I feel I get some from regular summertime activities and just want to focus on weights in the gym.

Cardio is not a requirement. You can achieve your results without it. A way to get a cardio effect from weights is to reduce rest time between sets to less than 60 sec. Reducing rest periods will get you out of gym faster to other activities.

If anyone got any good results from formal cardio, it sure seems like it would be held over so they could bound up steps two at a time. Elevators would be a thing of the past for them. No golf carts, those sort of things. :tucool:

Thats exactly where I am. I can go thru my routine in just about a half hour. I get winded and work up a good sweat and fatigue my muscles. So it seems to be covering everything for a complete workout. Especially leg day. :p

You don't need them, and weights/restricted eating can lose fat alone, but I think cardio really is important to add that extra push to fat loss. Yard work and other sports are perfectly sufficient IF you're doing enough of them. Golf once a week and mowing the lawn once a week wouldn't suffice...if you want the benefits of cardio you don't have to stay on a machine, but you do have to get moving!

I hear ya and I will/plan to still move around. I will throw a run or bike ride in once in a while when I have time at home. You should know as well that its hard to have time after work with a 14month old. I am just giving it up at the gym. I go to the gym at around 11:30am nearly every work day. I am giving up cardio workouts and using that time to do weights only. I started this year doing cardio only to get back in shape and then added weights into my regimine. Now I am planning only weights for part of the summer.

I think you'll do fine. I'm off formal cardio right now too. If your weight workout keeps you're heart rate up throughout, you'll still probably lose some fat providing you eat cleanly.

It wouldn't hurt to run and bike once a week for 20 minutes.

I imagine you'd be fine. Active leisure activites are a good idea. Of course, you'll be eating less than you would if you were doing structured cardio in addition or losing slower. But that's ok. However, if you plateau in the future and your calories are already fairly low, I would ALWAYS recommend adding some cardio rather than cutting further. I think below 1600 is not good for most men. And I like to see higher levels when possible. I find it infinitely preferable to add cardio of some form rather than cut calories to very low levels.
