The weight loss part has gone well. I went from 178# to 152# in about 4.5 months. My bf% at the end was about 15%. Don't know what it was when I began. At the end of May, I cut out my cardio and started focusing on weights (joined a gym instead of working out at home). I am now up to 157" and 13% bf.

I had a complete physical last Friday. The doctor was surprised that I had lost 21 pounds since the last time I was in (2 years ago). Said I looked healthy and there was no reason I couldn't work out at the gym. But, my cholesterol turned out to be a little high. And since I am already doing pretty well with diet and excercise, I am now on Zocor. Will be checked again in 6 weeks. I hope my present high-protein diet won't adversely affect the cholesterol.

My question is, do you guys thing I'm making good progress.? I know I need to bulk up and add lean muscle mass. It's hard because I don't like to eat much and I'm not very strong. When I go to the gym, I just kind of wander from machine to machine and do a set on it. At least I get a better leg workout than I do at home. Any thoughts on the best way to get up to about 175 and keep low bf%?

Hey Carguy, I'm not an expert at the gym, so others I'm sure will help you out there.

What I can comment on is your pics.
That looks like the NICEST 15% BF I have ever seen LOL.

You look simply amazing from your start, and you have to be proud on that. So many people on JSF have such awesome transformations that it just adds motivation to the rest of us to continue plugging away.

Thanks for posting your pics, and congrats on a A+ job

You look great! Nice progress!
If you don't want to bulk, you can always maintain. Good chance you'll get even more results from just doing that. It's going to be pretty hard to gain weight without eating more though (not suggesting McDs). Your cholesterol will probably be fine as long as it's lean meat. Well done!

what did you do to cut? how many calories? macros? And the important question...how much cardio? You look awesome and should be proud and that is coming from a girl- LOL.

Man you look great!! You will have to increase you calories in order to gain. I've read that it takes longer to gain lean muscle that it does to shed fat.

Thanks for all of the kind words. The weight loss part did come easily to me. It was the first time I had ever done it as I have always been on the thin side. In recent years, I had just gotten soft and flabby and my waist had gotten up to 36". By the way, I forgot to mention that I am 51 and a shade over 6' tall. I followed a modified BFL program and mostly just cut out the junk (Cokes, fast food, desserts) and ate 5 times a day. Since I had never worked out in my life, I started alternating weights and cardio on my treadmill at home. I guess you could say I did a HIIT program on the treadmill since I went slow, then fast, then slow, etc. I did fasted 20 minutes on the days I did cardio. The weights were just with dumbbells and a bench. I'm still not very good at the weights, even though I go to a gym now.

Maybe I will just try to maintain now. I like having a 32" waist again. But it would be nice to also have a filled-out chest and more defined upper body. Maybe I'll pirate someone else's bulk routine and try to follow it.
