Wouldnt ya rather compare to other guys ???? steven Sat, June 11th, 2005, 09:35 AM LOL maybe he has to visit the weightlifting forums before he can ask this question in sections other than this one :P just kidding. i can't talk because i can't do that many. i havent really counted how many i do, but when i work out my chest i do 2 sets of 20 pushups after all my chest exercises. hm.. ill check how many i can do now nvm my triceps hurt too much :( never2old Sat, June 11th, 2005, 10:40 AM I don't think I've ever posted in this forum. But the thread title caught my eye. How many (or few) you can do is nothing to be conceited (or ashamed) about, in my opinion. Just start with wherever you are, work from there, and see where your ambition and habits take you. A couple of months ago, I could only do 2 with knees up, maybe 15 with knees down. I haven't made it my life's obsession to increase that number quickly with any "crash" program. But I have started to exercise with pushups just a little more. And it's paying off: now I can do 5 or 6 knees up. (20 years ago, I could do 2 sets of 35 within several minutes.) Where'll I end up? Doesn't matter, really. I'm too close to my 50th birthday to be able to do "50 by 50," a goal I have fantasized about the past couple of years, but did not pursue. Who knows? Maybe by 65 I'll be able to do 65. ;) Go git 'em! :tu: Vincent Sun, June 12th, 2005, 03:16 PM When I started pushups a couple of months ago I could only do them on my knees, perhaps three or four real pushups. They made me sore so I thought this is good for me, and I included them in all my chest days. Last time (on Thursday) I did three sets of pushups: 35, 25, 25. Ok my arms and even legs were shaking by the end of the third set but I am very happy to brag about it, because that's something I could hardly do AT ALL not very long ago. :D Vincent. never2old Tue, June 14th, 2005, 02:12 PM Congratulations Vincent on your progress with pushups and your success overall! Inspiring! :claphigh: -Martin J3nnie Tue, June 21st, 2005, 11:23 AM well now I guess I don't feel so bad. We do push ups every class in Taekwondo. I've gotten to the point where I have to do them on my knuckles. Sure takes your mind off your arms. I do them on my knees because I have major back issues....which I'm working on...I'm now off all medication for my back. I really would like to work on doing a correct pushup and get off my knee....I think a lot of fear is keeping me from even attempting it....I'm so happy to be off all the medication (Taekwondo has really helped my back) that I am totally freaked out to do a correct one. I can do about 30 pushups without getting messy. After 30 in a row I start to not go down as far as I should. We do about 50 to 100 3x a week and our classes are about 45min. to an hour long. we do a lot of strength and cardio. Vincent Tue, June 21st, 2005, 07:05 PM Congratulations Vincent on your progress with pushups and your success overall! Inspiring! :claphigh: -Martin Hey thanks Martin. In fact, I was so happy when I weighed in at 160lbs that I celebrated reaching minus 40lbs of bodyweight by doing 40 pushups for the first time ever. Just one set, the last reps were slow and I was trembling all over, but I did them with ok form. It's just 40 pushups. But a year ago tying my shoelaces had me out of breath. That memory makes it all feel worth the effort. Vincent. fosse Tue, June 28th, 2005, 07:36 PM i think you guys scared him off, bet you feel great now dont you. lol. no seriously where has he gone, if he turns lazy n gets fat it wil be on our hands for not showing support lol :p . i hate push ups, ehy why do u american.canadian/where eva you cum from call them push ups. in england we call them by there proper name press ups.. good day to you all. fosse thirtysomething Tue, June 28th, 2005, 07:56 PM My back droops, too, during pushups. Is there a separate exercise I can do to strengthen the spinal erectors? fosse Wed, June 29th, 2005, 02:49 AM My back droops, too, during pushups. Is there a separate exercise I can do to strengthen the spinal erectors? dorsal pushes, lye on the floor face down, and pull up, so your legs, and chest rise off the floor, you should feel a stretch along your back. fosse |
