krosspyder Fri, June 10th, 2005, 04:04 PM is it not good to do deadlifts and squats 4 days apart?... or on the same day?
if i did squats and leg lifts 4 days ago... would it not be wise to do deadlifts today?
Banditfist Fri, June 10th, 2005, 04:09 PM You can do squats and deads back-to-back if you are not too sore. The only thing people worry about is being able to give 100% for either exercise without having soreness interfere.

This depends on a host of factors. Recovery, power nutrition, sleep, etc. If you deadlift and squat the same week, you may have to reduce total work volume from other training days by half, or eliminate a training day altogether. If you deadlift one week, eliminate squats on that week, and continue with squats the following week, alternating squats and deadlifts from week to week.
I include deadlifts after squats. I do sumo or romanian deadlifts to target the hams and quads. The following week I eliminate squats and deads and go with intensity routines - leg press, hack squats, leg curls, lunges, reverse hypers, sissy squats, and so forth.
So week one would look like:
Squats 4x4-6
Sumo or Romanian Deadlifts 4x4-6
Week two: (just one of many routines, where reps, sets, exercise change)
Leg Press 3-5x6-25
Hack Squats 2x8-10 1 1/3 reps
Walking lunges
Leg Curls X-reps 3x8-12
Reverse Hypers drop sets 2x8-12 (8,8,6)
tennisball Fri, June 10th, 2005, 08:32 PM I do heavy squats (warmup, 5x6-10) and heavy stiff leg deadlifts (5x8)on the same day, along with leg curl and leg ext, and calves.

betastas Fri, June 10th, 2005, 11:50 PM I do squats and stiff legged on the same day. I do deadlifts on back day. Right now I have a 3-day split, so sometimes I end up with squats and deadlifts multiple times in a week.
Nate Sat, June 11th, 2005, 12:02 AM I would never, ever do squats and DL's on the same day. I like to get at least five days between such workouts. If I squat, say, on a Monday then I'll deadlift on Saturday and I won't do legs again until the following Thursday.
My squat/deadlift cycles are unique, however. I go balls to the wall but I can't maintain it for more than 8 weeks or so.
steven Sun, June 12th, 2005, 10:32 AM iusually do squats and deadlifts either 2 or 4 days apart.
bradh Sun, June 12th, 2005, 10:59 AM I would never squat and deadlift on the same day but 48+ hours between lifts if you have advanced goals is adequate. With proper nutrition.
The 2 best lifts you can do for overall strength.
reanimated838uk Sun, June 12th, 2005, 11:15 AM I did do squats followed by deadlifts, but not now, not since they got rid of a better squat rack and put a crapper one in. Bah.
