View Full Version : Always so tired
cabeasle Thu, June 9th, 2005, 08:15 PM I don't know what the deal is, but I seem to get so tired to the point of dropping off to sleep whenever I am doing anything sedentary during the day if I can't keep my focus or attention heightened. I try and eat six meals a day and to eat pretty cleanly. I was wondering if it could be linked to boredom/disinterest, but even at times when I'm am trying to do something I really want to do I find myself dozing off. Do you think this could be a sign of overtraining at all, or maybe an insufficiency in some part of my diet?.... usually if I just give in and take an hour nap I wake up feeling great. I Get about 7-8 hrs. a sleep a night so it's not like I'm depraved or anything
It's getting to be frustrating to get tired so often. My workouts are suffering some as well as I find it harder to focus than I used to. Anyone have any ideas?
cabeasle Thu, June 9th, 2005, 08:16 PM Forgot to add, I am currently doing a 5 day a week MAX OT split, with about 3 cardio sessions a week.

These are symptoms of overtraining, i tried a 5 day thing and felt the same, you need more rest days.

Didn't you just start a couple of weeks ago and then you hurt your ribs?
Human Clay Fri, June 10th, 2005, 01:02 AM I get tired like that when the weather gets dreary. I have all of the symptoms of SAD, but apparently a diagnosis isn't typically made unless it occurs three years in a row or something. Even though it's June, we've been having overcast weather, and the amount of workouts I normally do has been cut in half.
My point is: does your weather currently suck? :D
cabeasle Fri, June 10th, 2005, 11:56 AM Nah...I used to think that I had SAD a few years ago, as my mood did tend to be influenced by the weather, but it was a different feeling. I would feel emotionally down, not physically. And to answer rtestes, first of all you have an impressive memory, and second, I started to do the MAX OT program about 6 weeks ago, starting with a bulk, but I felt I was putting on too much fat before my vacation in Trinidad (want to look trim for the beach) that I decided this last couple of weeks to switch to a cut. I'm going to go ahead and get down to a decent stomach definition before I start bulking that way i can keep better visual tabs on my muscle/fat gain. And yep, I hurt my ribs last week doing chest dips, and I was scared of doing any benching this week as well. But, being the stubborn (and foolish) person I am, I figured I'd grab a spotter and at least give it a go once to see how it felt, if there was pain I would stop, no pain continue, etc. Well, I found, oddly enough, the pain dissapeared while I was lifting, and I actually lifted even more than the week I hurt myself. I felt great, so I wasn't too worried about it. :claplow: But yeah, so it sounds like overtraining to you guys too? Would it still be overtraining if I am seeing strength gains everyweek?
bradh Sun, June 12th, 2005, 11:27 AM Sounds like overtraining to me. Take 3 days off. Remember fitness is not a sprint its a marathon.
You shouldn't jump into an advance routine in 6 weeks if i understood what you said correctly.
LouieDawg Tue, June 21st, 2005, 05:57 AM Regarding overtraining, I also believe that it might be the case. But I am not sure that a three day break from training will be enough to "get over it"
I have been overtraining the only time ever some months ago and I decided to settle down with two to four days off, but it ended up with a week before I felt fit to start up again. Whatever, again it is al about listening to your body.
Besides from feeling tired in generel, do you feel weak when excercising and are you not able to perform as you could earlier?
thirtysomething Tue, June 21st, 2005, 07:03 AM I get drowsy after I eat sometimes and also around 2-5 PM. I asked my doctor about it and he said it may be a side effect of blood pressure being on the lower end of healthy.
dano Sun, June 26th, 2005, 02:43 PM I get lethargic when I'm dehydrated.
1FastGTX Sun, June 26th, 2005, 05:33 PM You could be overtraining, I don't know. I'd prefer to have more information before being sure about overtraining: diet, rest/sleep schedule (and quality of sleep), etc. 6 weeks on a "by the book" MAXOT schedule/routine does not sound like something that would cause overtraining IMHO.
If you are overtraining I'd take at least a week off, more like 2 weeks myself (but continue to eat properly).
If you're not overtraining, it could just be that your diet sucks, maybe you're not eating enough carbohydrates. Maybe your sleeping patterns are not very good. Sure you get in 7-8 hours per night, but maybe you are not sleeping very soundly.

Could it be the time of day you workout? I know for me that this makes a huge difference. I normally workout in th evening (usually 9:30 or 10pm), but once summer hit, my gym closes early on Sunday, which means I have to go no later than 6pm. Well, Sundays for me really suck. At 6pm, I'm tired, don't have much energy, don't want to be at the gym, and I can't put forth the kind of effort I'd like. So, you might try to time your workout during a portion of the day in which you are normally energetic etc....circadian rhythms can be a real pain
