View Full Version : Creatine aids in Fat Loss?
Super89Rex Thu, June 9th, 2005, 06:43 PM Hey guys, I found this article stating that Creatine aids in Fat Loss.. My ultimate question would be, would taking Creatine while cutting help overall?

Skoorb Thu, June 9th, 2005, 06:52 PM Interesting...Another study performed by the U.S. Department of Defense found that soldiers who took creatine for just one week had an increase in bench-press strength, gained about four to seven pounds of muscle, and lost one to two pounds of bodyfat. Exercisers who took a placebo experienced none of these positive changes and actually gained some bodyfat.Their reads were wrong. Although water weight is not fat, it's definitely not "muscle", and they didn't put on five lbs of muscle just by taking creatine. Moreover, no way they lose 1-2 lbs of fat by doing nothing over that week period but taking creatine.
Otherwise I don't know. I know a lot of people take it when losing weight, but that's to keep/try and gain muscle as opposed to it as a real fat loss supplement. Maybe it is one though!

Two words: YEAH RIGHT
The gain of 4-7 pounds was probably lean body mass, which includes water retention. Duh.
And besides, a quick google search doesn't find this study anywhere. Any other takers?

krosspyder Thu, June 9th, 2005, 07:52 PM but doesnt water in muscle contribute to muscle creation or gain?
ive heard that one of the reasons why steroids works in creation of muscle is because of water retention in muscle.
Super89Rex Thu, June 9th, 2005, 07:59 PM Well, Im thinking maybe since Creatine helps the muscle retain water which aids in ATP production (correct me if I'm wrong) which would allows for better workouts, leading to more muscle gains. Since muscle is what burns fat, the addition of more muscle helps increase metabolism -> thus more fat loss?

exactly... thats what im thinking. so this report can theoretically be made ad also be correct. Its just a matter of perspective. Creatine can not add 4 to 7 pounds of muslce mass in 1 week... thats just absurd.... but it will aid in muscle mass (how long? who knows) as opposed to no creatine at all.
reports with half truths like this are made all the time id imagine.
