hey im 19 about 178lbs and im trying to get alittle bigger... not trying to get super bulky but just alittle bigger my goal weight is 190 by the end of the summer which im pretty sure i can do if i stick with my routine.... my question is that im fairly slim as it is but the only place i have fat really on my body is my gut... i have very strong stomach muscles and ive been working out on and off for liek 3 years and a month ago i started my working out again.... do i need to focus on losing the fat b4 i start any lifting or should i keep trying to get bigger and just work the crap out of my stomach.... im afraid if i go through a cutting phase and lose the weight i will look super scronny and lose muscle as well any and all input would be greatly appreciated... im 6,2 and my gut isnt big and isnt noticeable unless im sitting down... ive been developing my stomach muscles for years but i cant seem to get that layer of cushion off.... and other tips and comments would be appreciated as well as far as my building... the only the supplement im on is whey protein and a protein drink from the gym liek RTO 51 or Muscle milk...

welcome to the forums.

if you're 6'2 and 178, i say try to bulk (put on muscle).
and dont worry about becoming super bulky - its really not that easy.

i've seen great results from muscle milk.
what does your current diet look like? (what foods are you eating, and how many calories/fat/carb/protien from each)

try to focus on eating alot of plain oatmeal, veggies, and alot of protien from meats and eggwhites. lay off junk food and alcohol COMPLETELY. you're going to want to try and eat 3000 calories a day at first i think, where the protien is 40% of those calories, carbs 50%, and 10% from healthy fats like flax oil, fish oil, etc.

what does your workout routine look like?

well as far as my diet goes im not good at counting calories i just mainly watch how much protein i eat.... i quit eat fast food about a week ago... umm dont really eat much junk food.... but my school schedule make sit hard me for to get that 3000 calorie intake a day but im about to start making my sandwiches and eating them through the day.... as of yesterday i already had decided to cut out alchohol from my diet for a while... i do the gnc 100% whey protein shakes.. i usually do about 2 shakes of that after a workout or one of those and one muscle milk... so your saying i should worry more about my bulking?

I would bulk and keep some kind of record of your workouts so you can make adjustments if it seems like you're overtraining or undertraining.

You can't spot reduce fat off your gut by working abs, but I wouldn't discourage you from continuing to strengthen them. It's low bodyfat that eliminates the gut, and most guys store it there first and lose it there last.

If you eat 3,000 clean calories you'll add muscle and you may even lose fat from the boost to your metabolism that added muscle mass provides. If you eat 3,000 calories including a lot of junk you'll add muscle mass and you'll increase the size of that gut.

Good luck and hit the weights. :tucool:
