View Full Version : Well I bought a new bikini!
Justitia Mon, June 6th, 2005, 11:45 AM I bought a new bikini yesterday. I bought it really for taking photos as I work through my 12 week challenge. I am really too old to wear one and I have worn 1 pieces for 20 years, when I was younger because of weight I had put on and older...well b/c of the weight and that I was older.
But I have been trimming down a fair bit and the suit doesn't look too bad. I still don't think I would have the guts (or the lack of guts :D )yet to wear it to a beach but my SO thinks I could. I feel great that he does. He points out that there are plenty of 20 and 30 year-olds who are much less good shape than I am and who are wearing them. (But yeah, but that means they shouldn't be wearing them. :d_rolleye ) But anyway, it felt great that he felt that way.
And who knows, maybe in another 10 pounds and a couple more body % points off, I might have the courage.
rockenmama Mon, June 6th, 2005, 01:56 PM I bet you look great in it! Where's pics? Anyway you should be proud of all the progress you have made!
Hey I'm an old lady and I wear my bikini in public ;)

Yeah..but you are in much better shape than I am...I still have 30 pounds to go...and I am old enough to be your mother, rockenmama :D !
But thanks for the encouragement! I really do appreciate it. This has been a much tougher struggle for me than I thought...self-discipline has never been my strength.
Pictures will come in a couple of weeks...if I get over my embarrasment :p :o

No one here will judge you. If anything, we'll applaud your overcoming a personal fear in a big way. The rest of the world be damned, they don't matter. So the wife's favorite saying goes...
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. -- Dr. Suess

bluestreak's post sums it up perfectly. Post 'em if you got 'em. You have nothing to be ashamed of and plenty to be proud about.
Wilderbeast Mon, June 6th, 2005, 03:11 PM I am sure when the time is right you will want to post your pictures. Perhaps then i can return the compliment.

FerretNose Mon, June 6th, 2005, 03:44 PM Yay! Get down wit your bad self! :tucool:
I've worn one in public once, but I wore a sheer sarong with it. Probably nobody noticed my extra poundage because they were blinded by my skin which is so pale it looks like the face of a Timex Indiglo watch. I've got rosacea so being in the sun a lot or a tanning bed is a no-no for moi.

liteweight Wed, June 8th, 2005, 05:56 AM I am really too old to wear one and I have worn 1 pieces for 20 years
If you think 50-something is too old for a bikini, you need to read Fit Over 40. It'll keep you from making statements like "I'm too old..." for anything. I know it's motivating me to blast through my last 5-10lbs of BF I want to lose. That said, I am having fun TODAY and not waiting till "some-future-date-event" to occur before I start living.
You're capable of whatever you want. Go for it. :tu:
Justitia Mon, June 13th, 2005, 06:28 PM Thanks for the suggestion: I bought Fit over 40 as soon as it came out. :D
I am not yet where I want to be physically but I am slowly getting there.
I also don't want to be one of those women who "dress" to young for their age. I remember that as a kid...the women looked ridiculous. But then that was another era, when women were over the hill at 30 and completely washed up by 40--grandma material. So the stylish clothes back then pretty much only looked good on 20 somethings.
But it is different now. Susan Sarandon is sexy, Joan Allen is sexy. I think even Farah Fawcett (who is one year older than me  ) is still sexy. And women now look...well... womanly. :claplow:
So let's see when I get the courage to wear that bikini.
Carole Mon, June 13th, 2005, 10:14 PM :) I read with great interest your most recent post regarding your misgivings about wearing a bikini (to bikini or not to bikini) and mature women who wear styles inappropriate and or unflattering for them. I certainly share your concerns (I am much older than you and/or Farah Fawcett.), they are most valid. I would think at one time or other, almost every woman over 55 who maintains an interest in her appearance has given consideration to this issue. I too remember seeing women, when I was younger, dressing or wearing hair styles meant for the young. I hoped that I would never be guilty of such fashion faux pas. Justitia I suspect that you are probably your own best judge (and the only judge that should matter) of what is right for you; you know if you have “business” wearing what you’re wearing and if you doubt, trust yourself and just wait awhile. As far as a bikini on the beach goes let me just say this. You’re out there for you, the sun, the breeze and the water, not approval. If you feel good about it do it!! :tu:
Boxer-in-training Tue, June 14th, 2005, 01:51 AM Boy, if you have the body for it - GO FOR IT! Who cares how old you are. I am quite thin, but I still cannot pull off wearing a bikini due to a heap of loose stretched out skin that would just fall over the top of the bikini bottoms. And NO ONE wants to see that.
Justitia Tue, June 14th, 2005, 02:41 AM Well, my SO thought I looked great..but I don't have the body for it yet I think. But I am not too far away. Back to weight work out to tighten up, another 20 pounds off.... I think I can do it. Too soon to tell about the skin. Certainly elasticity is less. but I don't think it's going to be gobs of skin.
I had pictures taken tonight at the gym in it. I was a little disappointed. i lost a lot of the tightness I was gaining last winter...and I also just came off a really major cheatr weekend. So I won't post them but maybe in a couple of weeks I will.
polyphony Thu, June 16th, 2005, 01:59 PM Good for you and way to go!
We are always hardest on ourselves, you know.
But the upside of that is that you obviously have the self-discipline to reach your goals. And that my dear, makes you a very cool person. :claphigh:
Justitia Mon, August 15th, 2005, 03:43 AM OK, so I posted a couple of Pic's. They were taken this past Saturday.
So it took a couple of months before I did. :D
Also they are after I went AWOL re: exercise. I have only been back at it 3 weeks.
Here is the link: http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=12073&page=2&pp=20
By the way, SO is no longer around to appreciate the bikini... :d_frown:
But the upside is that I have started to get back to working out again... :claplow: (Though there is no excuse for the AWOL)
And the new Avatar was taken this past Saturday too...
