View Full Version : EZ Bar / Barbell
Jim Sat, January 24th, 2004, 11:59 AM Is there any difference between an EX bar and a straight barbell on how it will work your muscles? I just bought a Tricep bar and an EZ bar (Barbells hurt my wrists :( )

I can guess the Tricep bar will be good, but is there any big difference on how an EZ bar will do instead of a Barbell? :o
If it's a stupid question, sorry :tu:
brownguy Sat, January 24th, 2004, 12:51 PM I haven't heard to much on this, except for one article in a fitness magazine that said it made no difference if you used an EZ curl ba vs a straight one. I think that if an exercise hurts your joints, you probably shouldn't do it. That's why I go with an EZ curl bar as well.
Jonesy Sat, January 24th, 2004, 05:26 PM There actually is a difference between using a straight bar and E-Z bar. Your grip on a bar effects how the excercise works the muscle. And usually, when people mention straight bar curls, they are usually talking about using the 45lb bench bar.
As far as your joints go, there is a few think that may be coming into play with that.
1) You may be using too much weight.
2) You may not be streching/warming up properly or long enough
3) Form is also very important! If an excercise is uncomfortable, you may not be doing it properly. Have someone check your for while you do a few sets.
4) As far as dumbells curls go, there are several variations. Try a few different styles to see if one is more comfortable.
Dumbell curls are a great excercise, I'd hate to think you have to just not do them at all.
Jim Sat, January 24th, 2004, 08:32 PM I do dumbell curls.
I'm buying all my own equipment to save money in the long run from going to the Gym where things are limited. So far I have a cardio bike, two dumbells, That tricep bar and the EZ bar, next on the list are more weights.
I use them all regulary for workouts, but I need more weights.
BlackBeauty Tue, January 27th, 2004, 11:49 PM I use an EZ bar for bicep curls and tricep bar for hammer curls as well as seated tricep extensions. I used to use a straight bar but that caused too much pain on my elbows and didn't allow me to lift as heavy weights as I would like. I definately prefer using the EZ bar but wish I could use the tricep bar for more exercises....now, I only ever use my straight bar for shoulder press and upward rows but am soon to start using the EZ bar for those too.
NME Wed, January 28th, 2004, 07:58 AM You'll probably stop using the tricep bar rather quickly. The EZ bar is not as awkward to hold and a great piece of equipment for working triceps.
But that's all I use the EZ bar for. I use the straight bar, dumbbells, and cables for my bicep workout.
brownguy Tue, February 3rd, 2004, 01:56 PM One advantage of an EZ curl bar -- I can use more weight than with a straight bar on reverse curls.
Teg4e Wed, February 4th, 2004, 12:02 AM I wouldn't worry about the wrist position affecting how the exercise hits your biceps. I feel sore all over the two bicep muscles and the brachialis after my bicep workouts.
I can't use straight bars for curls, I get shooting pains down my forearms. I also get wrist pain if I use a tricep bar for skull crushers. I use an EZ curl bar for both these exercises and it works great. I used to just use dumbbells, but those don't allow for you to use as much weight. I'd definitly recommend incorporating some bar exercises into your bicep/tricep routines if you're going for mass.
