View Full Version : Okay, so if I start bulking now...
Mythik Fri, February 27th, 2004, 03:15 PM ...and continue to do so until mid-may, approx how many lbs would I gain (supposing I eat 3k+ GOOD calories a day, meaning no junk food, fast food, etc)? and how much of that is fat and I would have to burn off?
current stats: 5'10" ~140lbs
psuguy98 Fri, February 27th, 2004, 03:19 PM You can consume all the calories in the world, but if you don't lift heavy and eat clean, you will eat 3k calories a day for nothing.
If you do lift heavy and smart and eat clean it's still impossible for any one of us to dictate how much weight ( or lean mass for that matter) you will gain. There are so many other factors such as genetics that play a role.
Mythik Fri, February 27th, 2004, 03:22 PM well of course you need to lift heavy.
I'm considering using the guide at the top as a model, and tweaking it a bit.
Mythik Fri, February 27th, 2004, 03:31 PM I want to start bulking, but I'm afraid I'll gain too much fat :( , hence why I'm hesitant to start, especially so close to summer...
how essential is it to overload calories? Can I still gain a decent amount of muscle eating a normal amount (But make it count...) and lift with a good routine?

Jump right in and do it man!!
If you start to gain fat, you will have plenty of time to adjust your diet!

Really, no one can tell you how much you're going to gain. Have you tried weight training before?
How active are you in your normal every day life? 5'10" and 140 pounds; you sound like a hardwired natural ectomorph.
If that's true, you might want to consider just eating everything. Go crazy. Seriously. Don't count calories. Eat often and eat until you're satiated at every meal. If you're not gaining weight then start eating past satiation, until you're just a bit uncomfortably full. Best way to do this is to save the great tasting foods for the end of the meal. When you're just about full it's much easier to get a piece of chocolate in you than to try and force down some tuna. So fill yourself up with the salads, tuna, chicken, etc. and save yourself some great dessert for last.
That's right, I said chocolate. I may even go ahead and say cake, brownies and cookies too. This goes against gospel here, but if you're a seriously hard-gaining ectomorph than you might just have to eat some dessert to put on the muscle.
Lucky bastard.
Mythik Sun, February 29th, 2004, 08:43 PM haha, I wish I could eat cake/brownies/cookies, but the truth is, I dont have a problem gaining fat. :(
I was pretty skinny as a pre pubescent, but as soon as Puberty hit around 12-13, I blew up, and was pretty big up until 7 months or so, lost 20-30 lbs.
According to the link in the bulking guide (the sticky up top), I am the closest to a mesomorph.
fluke Sun, February 29th, 2004, 10:02 PM Like me, a light meso. I am overweight, but only because I have had terrible eating habits and didnt exercise, not because I'm predisposed.
Nobody can tell you how much you will gain. However, do not worry about putting on weight! Just dive in bulking!! If you start packing on pounds around the midsection, just cut a bit, then start bulking again. You will see that this is not really a problem if you are eating clean and doing cardio.

Ahh, lucky bastard!
Make sure you do squats, bench press, deadlifts, good stuff like that. Assuming you're doing some good training and eating clean food I bet things'll work out.
