Talk to a trainer, or schedule an appt with your doctor if it persists.

I don't many of us can give sound advice on injuries that could potentially be serious.

I know exactly what you are talking about. When I first started jogging I wasn't doing any stretches for my IT band and after awhile I could barely even walk much less run.

The only thing that fixed it was taking a couple of weeks off from putting any stress on my leg and then making sure I really stretch out my IT band before I go jogging.

Now that I'm stronger and stretching properly i haven't had 1 bit of trouble .

I have been having this same problem. I don't even know what an IT band is but I do know that I almost never stretch. Except when I play hockey and thats just because in a game its traditional in the preskate to stretch.
I'm usually too impatient to stretch and it never bothered me before. I'm usually too rushed so I've always skipped stretching. Now that I'm getting older I think I'm going to have to be more careful.

Last year I had horrible tendenitis in my ITB. On the side of my left knee too. I attempted to do daily runs on the treadmill after being totally inactive for nearly a year. After a solid week, it got to the point where I could barely walk. I remember having to hoble to the hospital from my work.

Now that it is aggravated, the only thing that makes it go away is rest. While I was getting better, there seemed to be a certain number of steps I could take each day, before it would flare up ( you probably know the feeling). you'll feel fine that day and then sometime late in the day the pain would just start. It took a good 2 months before I didn't notice it at all. I went to a physical therapist and they showed me different stretches to do. I recommend doing this. Some streches are too aggressive to start out with, you should do some easy ones at first.

Good luck!

hi
so physio worked for you? i guess if it gets worse i'll have to check it out.
during my ten minute walk to the gym it begins to hurt. all i've been able to do this week was my upper body workouts and NO cardio. i've been skipping anything leg related..this stinks as i just really got back into working out again!!!

I know exactly how you feel. But you really need to be patient right now. I used it as an oppurtunity to focus on nutrition and weight lifting.

I guess physical therapy helped a little but I think it just took time to heal. that was the most important thing.

What did you do to cause it to flare up? were you over training?

i'm not even sure if it is my IT bands! it's the side of the knee and the back. i found that the bike doesn't hurt while i ride. at night i feel it a bit. i think i better go to the doc!!

Any sites where you can link to for some really good pre-leg -running-eliptical-etc. stretches?
