View Full Version : Summertime cover-ups over workout clothes

My gym is just 5 minutes away so I dress for my workout at home and come back to shower and eat at home.

During this winter I bought some cover ups that could bear fall, winter and spring weather.

But now it is summer and even the lightest of them are too warm to wear.

I walk from my apartment to the gym, I live downtown, there are a number of unsavory characters along the way, and it would be a little embarrassing to be walking in my workout clothes directly (and attract too much attention.)

But I have no idea what to put on to cover up that would not be too hot and that I can slip off and on easily at the gym.

I used to wear big T-shirts to workout in and wore that over my lycra shorts, when that was also a style to wear outdoors, so it did not attract attention then. But I am 35 lbs lighter now, don't want to wear baggy cover-ups to workout in any more. And as well wearing Lycra shorts now would be too eye-catching since it is no longer the fad.

Is there any light weight material I should look out for that people could recommend?

why should you care what other people think, just do your own thing... noone really gives a sh** what you wear, and thats the whole truth, everyones busy doing there own thing, and so should you, if you workout, wear workout clothes... doesnt matter what they look like people arent going to be thinkin all day about what your wearin, let alone 1 second..

people who are CONFIDENT wear what they want and dont mind what people think... it doesnt mean there seeking attention it means there confident and its not a big deal to them people looking at them.

I think you misunderstood. I was asking about coverups to wear over my workout clothes when I am walking through the streets to my gym not what I wear when I work out.

I just wanted some recommendations for light weight cover ups until I get to the gym.

It may not seem like a big deal to you, but as a female I have to be somewhat concerned what I wear in the streets of the downtown of a major city. One can inadvertantly invite all kinds of accostings--even at my age.

Justitia,
How about throwing on a pair of those boxer type shorts (you know, the ones that have a little split on the sides and usually a stripe? Are they called running shorts?) over your lycra shorts and a t-shirt over your top?

or even better...I saw this skirt on the walmart site

Cute skirt...I may be a little old for that. But I like your idea of the rinning shorts and t-shirt.

I hate showering and changing at the gym. Takes time and there's everyone else's cooties....I like to stick to just my own

Oversized sweatshirt and sweatpants. Unless it's 120 degrees out you're not going to overheat on a 5 min walk to the gym.

I like you prefer not to use the facilities at my gym but unlike you I am from a small town and don’t walk but drive to get there. I wear shorts with spandex pants underneath to workout in. (Don’t have to worry about putting my legs up on the bench while working out) and a cami. If I have errands to run after my workout I just doff the top shorts, pull on a skort and wear a short sleeved button front shirt over the cami. Walla, I’m ready to be seen on the streets or in stores……..even at my age. Title9 has many skorts that fold flat, look really cute and don’t wrinkle when stuffed down in a gym bag. (Catalogue or web site) lots of other places do too i.e. the one from WalMart. A skort is so multipurpose, I very often wear them shopping or for other casual outings. Their fun! Hope you are able to resolve your clothing dilemma. Oh and by the way I think you’d look great in that little skirt.

(I tried to post this yesterday but don't see it, guess I didn't do it the correct way.........hope I'm not repeating myself! :o )
