OK, here's one, I haven't tried it personally but the person who gave it swore that it tastes great.

1 cup of brown rice
2 cups of water
some salt, pepper
1 tbs of olive oil
1 sp of honey
some soy sauce
some garlic powder
some nutmeg

Place everything in a pot and cover, boil on a low fire for 40 minutes.

* She also advised to soak the rice in hot water fro about an hour before the cooking.

My recipe:

1 cup of whole rice – boiled with 2.5 cups of water

1 chicken breast sliced, steamed with 1 onion.
Add to the chicken some:
• carrot
• celery
• cabbage
• sprouts
• pepper
• broccoli

mix the chicken, vegetables and rice.
Add some seasoning (Olive oil, Black pepper, garlic powder, salt)

Enjoy with a fresh salad.

I have brown rice nearly every day and made right, it's great. I buy Comet Long Grain and not the instant crap. Try dropping a boullion cube in, and let it dissolve before you pour the rice it. You can also cook it without any spices and then stir in either lite soy sauce or butter buds. I guess if you've been eating white rice all your life, it takes a while to get used to.

There's some way too make brown rice in a crockpot. It takes like two hours. The last time I made it, this is how, but now I forget exactly how I did it. Anyone know what I am talking about? If so, refresh my memory.

try basmati rice. I heard it's very low in the GI. It smells wonderful and tastes great by itself.

I usually cook my brown rice (about a half cup) for 20 minutes, add in three or four habenero peppers (put a few slits in them to make sure you get as much flavor from them as possible), crushed chili peppers, and a little salt and then cook it for another 20.

I like hot foods, though, so your mileage may vary.

I don't know if it's the kind I buy, or how I prepare it.

It would better facilitate the responders if we knew what type you did buy. Not all brown rice brands/breeds are equal.

For instance, I love short grain brown rice but am not much of a fan of long grain brown rice. And Minute Rice brown rice and Uncle Ben's brown rice are right out.

I have been eating rice for the past... 17 years and I never once said that it tastes like crap  I eat the old fashioned one, not the instant. I never use any special cooking method, just rice and water. If you'll make rice as a part of your diet, invest on a rice-cooker. They are easier to prepare that way. I love rice  and so to oatmeal, fruits, vegetables, beef, chicken, fish and so on  Bottomline, I'm in the mood for food :eat:
