I'm about to go to bed in about 40 min and it always works out that if i get 6 meals in a day the last one will be 20 min before i go to bed. I was wondering what would be a good Before bed snack. I dont have any cottage chezze so any good suggestions would be great thanks.

Cottage cheese, Casein protein and some sort of nuts are the best way you can go before bedtime.

Oatmeal and potein powder.
That's if you're not a believer of no-carb pre-bed... :D

Most important thing -- it needs to fit into your daily calorie plan.
Second important thing -- it needs to fit into your evenly spaced calorie intake plan.
Third important thing -- it needs to fit into your daily macronutrient plan.
Fourth important thing -- watch out for dragon breath in the morning.

Otherwise -- eat what you want.

Brush your teeth to avoid forth most important thing. That way, you only need to pay attention to 3 important things

I love egg whites too... but I feel terribly sorry for the yolks that has to be thrown away :d_redface It's against my moral belief to throw away foods, especially with all the hungry people out there :d_confuse I'm sure I'm not the only one... But again, it's better to throw them, rather than making them stick to hips, abs, thighs and love handles :d_biggrin

For a little bit more money you can purchase pre-separated egg whites, i personally just stick to the whole egg because they are already portioned etc. just break 3 or 4 into a cup and microwave and in 3 minutes i have a low calorie, high protien pre bed meal...

This will change once school starts and i am in bed by midnight...right now i wake up later in the mornings, like 11ish and go to bed around 2 or 3 am...so the pre bed snack is coming at 11:30pmish when i get home from work...

Under circumstances that don't require me to stay up all night (most days), I typically do well staying with an all protein meal (minimal carbs/fat).

If I have to stay up all night, which is common for finals or other specific circumstances (like tonight), a large carb + fat (I just had 2 cups rice (400 cal) + 1.5tbsp sesame oil (180 cal), followed by 2-3 tbsp natural peanut butter(200-300 calories), totaling 780-880 calories) meal (along with proper stimulants) provide me with the energy I need.

I can see the argument for both ways of eating, given a protein meal provides for more protein during a period when you are rebuilding muscle and other tissue, but a carb+fat meal also takes a long time to digest and refills muscle glycogen, preventing catabolism as well. It also depends on how strenous the day was before and how it's expected to be the next day. Also, the "carbs/fat turn to fat deposits @ night" issue escapes the reality that your body is always burning calories for energy and even during the day your body will store excess glucose as fat if there is a surplus. It's STILL a calories in and calories out issue.

Agreed, back in january and february i was getting up at 8am to go to the gym, as opposed to 11am now, so i was in bed earlier and therefore did not need to eat when i got home from work, id just take a late snack at work, usually banana and natural pb for about 300 calories and call it a night. I did not see any negative effects from this so i tend to disagree with carb/fat being wholly bad for you pre-bed.

However 880 calories seems like a lot of calories for your body to handle at one time...but thats just me, i restrict to around 500-600 per meal...

Egg beaters?

im not sure what the brand name is but they are in approx. the same location as the egg beaters. I have not looked into the nutritional info behind these pre-seperated egg whites either but its an option.
