Gila Monster Fri, May 13th, 2005, 08:57 AM Hey Jack, great post! Would you mind sharing please why you avoid beans? I eat them a lot as a meat substitude...
The Reaver of Darkness Fri, May 13th, 2005, 09:47 AM screw you, I'm still gonna eat my beans, corn, lentils, and peas. I like those very much thank you. And I don't believe they're unhealthy.
Snowie Fri, May 13th, 2005, 10:31 AM screw you,
possibly a little harsh?!! :p
minilifter Fri, May 13th, 2005, 11:23 AM screw you, I'm still gonna eat my beans, corn, lentils, and peas. I like those very much thank you. And I don't believe they're unhealthy.
He said they were things that HE avoided for nutritional reasons. Not that everyone should avoid them. He also never said they were unhealthy. Maybe the nutritional reasons have to do with digestion or their vitamin content. Or that they contain enzyms which he reacts badly to.
Personally I avoid carrots, beets, corn and squash for "nutritional reason" but I do eat sweet potatoes, yams, beans and lentils. My nutritional reasons being that I need the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals of leafy greens more than the ones in the "vegetables" listed above so I substitute leafy greens any time I an tempted to eat the veggies I listed.
Calm down, post like yours have a tendency to get people banned around here, its a friendly place and everyone likes it that way.
TheRyanator Fri, May 13th, 2005, 02:23 PM I find that Broccoli is a great vegetable for me. It is low cal and very dense so it is filling. Actually I am all out today and I kinda miss it...never would have thought I would MISS broccoli.
screw you, I'm still gonna eat my beans, corn, lentils, and peas. I like those very much thank you. And I don't believe they're unhealthy.
Hey, keep that up and we wont be seeing much of you around here. Careful with the knee jerk reactions, he avoids them because of HIS nutritional reasons. If they are good for YOUR nutrition eat up!
FYI, this is not your typical fitness site, there are plenty of others out there for you to visit if you want to treat people's opinions like that.
jack_deuce Fri, May 13th, 2005, 04:59 PM Hey Jack, great post! Would you mind sharing please why you avoid beans? I eat them a lot as a meat substitude...
I eat a lot of meat, which can cause your kidney to excrete calcium in your urine and (in high enough quantities) result in a bone mineral deficiency. Beans, lentils, peas, and soybeans (as well as dairy products) have the same effect. So if I ate a lot of meat plus beans plus dairy, I'd worry about osteoporosis. I therefore just pick one out of the three, and my choice is meat.
If I didn't eat meat, I'd eat beans.
The potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, and corn, I avoid because I gain fat very easily when I eat starches. I avoid pasta and bread for the same reason.

I'm sorry, I was just being goofy. I guess I've lived around people who talk that way for too long. I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings. I wasn't angry or agitated at the time. And I see what you mean now, some people's nutritional requirements are different.

Hey Reaver, I read your "screw you" comment as if you had a big smile on your face. You like your corn, what can you say? No worries on my end.
philph Fri, May 13th, 2005, 11:13 PM As for me, I eat a lot of red lentils and chickpeas. And oats every morning. These, along with the odd apple here and there, constitute most of my vegetable calories.
I also eat salad leafs most days. I'm still trying to find other vegetables that I can eat without ruining my appetite for the rest of the day. Last time I tried steamed broccoli, I found it just about eatible but unfortunately it filled me up so much that I didn't eat the rest of my food that day.
the Dark Canuck Sun, May 22nd, 2005, 06:26 PM From what I understrand if you were forced to choose one veggie to eat for the rest of your life, broccoli would be the best choice. I eat it steamed almost every night.

You know that none of those are vegetables, right? ;)
Lentils and chickpeas are legumes. Oats are grains. Apples are fruits.

Yeah, and legumes, grains and fruits are all examples of vegetables.

I can't believe I missed your reply!
Thanks for the info., I really didn't know those eating habbits could lead to osteoporosis :d_eek:
Guess I should go and do some reading on the subject...
BTW, the veggies that I eat are peppers (red, orange and yellow), cucumbers and lettuce.
The reason for this choice is the claim of a certain radoi broadcast saying it is advised to eat 5 vegetables of 5 different collors daily.
Well, I guess I'm missing one collor (probably purple). But nevertheless I feel very satisfied with this habbit. :D
