Hey guys. I heard somewhere that corn is not all that good for you and was wondering what you guys thought. I usually have a serving for dinner mixed in with my other veggies. Thoughts?

Corn is not a veggie. (It's a grain.) It has little nutritional value other than its fiber (and vegetables generally have more fiber per calorie than does corn), and actually contains antinutrients that block the absorption of certain minerals. Moreover, it presents a high renal acidic load to the kidney, which causes you to excrete calcium in your urine and can thus contribute to causing osteoporosis.

Not only is corn not particularly good for humans to eat directly, but eating corn-fed beef is less healthy than eating grass-fed beef. (Farmers tend to feed their cattle cornmeal to fatten them up before taking them to market. It can have the same effect on humans.)

Corn is still a lot healthier than french fries, though. There's no harm in eating it occasionally. It just shouldn't be a staple.

Corn has little nutritive value and is full of high GI carbohydrates. Best to stay away from it when fat loss is your goal.
