So I usually tan a handful of times before the summer hits, since I work inside I like to get a nice base built up so I dont burn. I am also in two weddings this month and dont want to stick out like a ghost.

Anyway, I went tanning and the second trip there they put me into one of those "Stand up" beds because the others were all full and I was on a tight schedule. Well it turns out that the ten minutes I spent in that booth burnt me really really bad  . I mean, anytime I put pressure on any major body part it feels like needles and I am beet red over %70 of my bod. Since then I have felt and looked really bloated as well even though I am drinking a ton of water to heal my skin. Is it natural for the body to retain water when the skin is burnt? That is the only connection I can make at this point for this sudden bloat.

Thanks for the input in advance.

they mention there that swelling can occur as a result of sunburn. do some googling, hopefully you can find some home remedies that will work effectively for you. I got sunburnt so bad in June of 2003 I had to go to the doctor and get prescription strength creme. That was painful!

when you're sunburnt your tissues will be swolen and irritated... Its swelling from what is basically an injury...
Some mild anti-inflamatories (like advil/aspirin) may not only help some of the pain but take the swelling down a bit as well...

Madmonkey's right. Sunburn is a burn, plain and simple, and any injury provokes inflammation to begin/promote the healing process. Inflamed tissues are a bit 'leaky' so the amount of interstitial water you will have goes up. Hence, your gross weight will go up.

I just think it's a sneaky way for you to cut. Injuries like that will hike up your metabolic rate, and you will lose more heat than normal, so need to burn more fuel in your liver just to maintain your temperature.

Andrew.

Aww, man you are onto me!! :o

I know I should avoid tanning beds, and I do 11.50 months out of the year. I only do when prepping for a spring/summer wedding where everyone else is planning to tan...I hate pictures where there are all these tan people and this one ghostly person stuck in there. The only other time I use them is for about two weeks at the beginning of the sunny season to get that base going, otherwise I am white all Summer as I work inside all day long.

Thanks for the input!! :claphigh:
