View Full Version : Body Fat???
littlemommy928 Mon, May 9th, 2005, 04:30 PM Hi everyone!
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone for giving me advice over the last few days. Its really nice to find a community that motivates and supports like this...
Ok, now, I have no after picture yet, just a slight before, which im pretty sure i have attached below :p . I actually started this in Feb trying to better my health and fitness, and this is where Im at as of yesterday. I was dedicated but didnt quite understand alot of the details until recently. I havent had my body fat callipered yet, just the electronic one, which read about 25%. I have seen some other posts with people asking what people think body fat is from a pic. I would love to hear some estimates.
(I hope i attached the photos...i dont see em, but i did upload em! :o )
jsbrook Mon, May 9th, 2005, 07:32 PM Looking good to me! Keep it up; you're gonna be gorgeous. I'm sorry that I can't give you an actual estimate-hard for me to evaluate women. Not even sure what's a good level of bodyfat for you ladies. But looks like you're headed in the right direction.
Hort Mon, May 9th, 2005, 07:38 PM Agreed! Keep up the good work- I also have no idea about female bodyfat %. And w00t! to getting some sun.

mason Mon, May 9th, 2005, 08:32 PM I *think* most women look good in the 11%-14% body fat range. I don't think you're at quite 25% but you might be. You're very pretty already, I can't imagine what you'll look like once you've shed a few pounds.

take a look at guava's pics. she's 18% if i can remember correctly, and i dont see a bit of fat on her.
based on that, i'd say the 25% estimate is probably right.
krosspyder Mon, May 9th, 2005, 08:41 PM yep... even if you are not happy with the way you look you look great to me. why do most skinny pretty woman think they are fat all the time? mystery i guess.
well good luck on your goal.... im sure you will get there.

Nah... most men look good around 11-13%. Women are generally like 7-10% higher I think.

WOW! Thanks everyone for the positive comments. It feels good to hear it. As far as skinny women thinking they are fat...maybe they see something different when they look in the mirror. Everyone is thier worst critic!!
I had the callipers done today at the gym and it was 23.5%. A question for the ladies..does "that time" make a diffence with the body fat measurments?

Women have much more bodyfat than men. A woman can get a six pack easily while in the teens, I believe.

Yeah HORT, I didnt mean to get that much sun. It sucks cuz it's a total famers tan, or should i say burn. My shoulders are killing me. Trust me, doing weighted squats tonight was enough to remind me of the benifits of sunscreen. :p

I'm not a woman, but I can answer this :)
Yes, it could make a difference. Water retention in soft tissues can easily add a few pounds, and it could change the results depending on how it's carried (everyone is different, obviously, but some women will more readily store water in the measured areas and some less so). Using some easy round numbers:
Assume a 130lb female who has a body fat of 23%. That's roughly 100 pounds of lean mass, 30 pounds of fat. Now add in four pounds of water (134 pounds total) and her composition jumps up over 25% even though she hasn't really gained any fat.
That's some pretty rough science, of course, but water weight can really make numbers jump around. It's generally a more dramatic effect in women not only because of the question you're asking, but just their smaller size in general - four pounds of water is a significantly larger percentage than the same amount would be to a 200 pound male.
Also (obligatory guy comment and all), you look good. I'd say 25% or less. The 'ideal' for a fit/athletic woman is just under 20% or so, and I'd guess you're somewhere between five and ten pounds away.

Thanks. Other than some untimely thunder storms recently the weather has been awesome. A little on the warmer side, but, it is about time for that. Bring ya sunblock :o :cool
Bluestreak Tue, May 10th, 2005, 04:34 PM For once, those electronic scales are right. I'd agree with 25%. At 18~20%, you'll be unbelievable with a little muscle on your frame.
