View Full Version : 6 Week Cut Fest Megathon
pug April 27th, 2005, 09:17 AM Ok. Here is the deal. I am leaving for St. Lucia on June 13th. My long time g/f (now fiance) and I will be married on the pier at sunset and I want to be looking my best (that I can by then anyway). If you follow my journal you know that I am doing pretty good but my diet is a little iffy at times.
Thus, I thought I would find some motivational challengers to partake in an all out, balls-to-the-wall challenge with the goal being optimal fat loss while retaining, if not building, muscle. Roll call for this challenge will be until next Tuesday with the challenge starting on Wednesday. Every Wednesday we will be weighing in, measuring neck, chest, waist, hips, thighs, calves, wrists, forearms, biceps, and body fat %. You must use a scale or calipers.. none of this fitday bullshit calculation nonsense. Take a week to think about it and let me know if you are interested. I will post a webpage for those participating to enter their stats into and will update this thread every Wednesday mid morning.
This will be a 6 week cut fest with the person losing the most FAT being deemed the winner! Who wants in?????!
Pug:tu:
Andrew M April 27th, 2005, 09:29 AM I need a bit of a stick on my back currently, so I'll join you. However, I have no intention of faffing around with measurements. My personal circumstances dictate that my exercise time is severely limited currently (see my journal), so I'm not getting too fussed about the detail.
I'm at the highest sustained weight of my life currently, 123.7kg this morning to be exact, and easily the wrong side of 30% BF. I wiil be doing a bit of running, and mostly only bodyweight resistance exercises (I've a light bar and DBs at home). My fitness levels are better than they had been, as I had been getting to the gym fairly regularly since November. My lifting has also been going well, with my deads, squat and bench being at their all time highs.
I will get my BF% from my scales to begin the challenge, in the knowledge that they are pretty inaccurate. The trend down (hopefully) will suffice though.
Andrew.
dkroll April 27th, 2005, 06:27 PM I might be up for this one.
Cziffra April 27th, 2005, 06:32 PM Hey, wh0areume, how come you still didn't join this challenge?
;)
I will not join. I'm too busy beating wh0areume. But I will follow the thread with interest.
Good luck to all challengers!!
Speed Trials April 27th, 2005, 07:05 PM I'm definitely in! I think it's high time I stop lurking around in the shadows here. I want to get into fighting shape for the summer, as well.
armenk April 29th, 2005, 05:09 AM I'm in. Just started getting back into shape last week, probably down a couple pounds now but I got a loooong way to go.
Edit: Hehe just realized this is my first post but I registered in Feb 2004!
pug May 2nd, 2005, 05:21 PM Ok, I got some emails, IMs, and PMs from people asking to be in the challenge. ANYONE care join! The more push, the better! All I ask is that you adhere to the following (which will make the playing field as fair as possible):
1. Take before pictures either tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday morning. Keep them in a safe spot. Don't post them in here. We want the element of surprise in the end!
2. Take measurements of your: neck, chest, waist, hips, thighs (left and right), calves (left and right), wrists (left and right), and finally, biceps (left and right). All measurements should be taken relaxed, no flexing! For leg related measurements make sure your weight is shifted appropriately so you don't skew the measurements from week to week.
3. Take body fat measurements. Use whatever method you want, but be consistent for 6 weeks and don't switch methods. If you start with a Tanita scale, stick with it... if you like the calipers, stick with it.... if you like the online formulas, stick with it.
4. Stick to whatever diet, workout, cardio, etc plan works for you. All we care about is the end results. Save the steps to getting them for your journal. This is all about hard work and numbers.
5. Post your weekly results (including the starting week) in this thread. Don't skimp on the measurements!
6. Take more pictures at the end of 6 weeks.
7. Post your total losses in the different areas of measurement alon with your before and after pics!
Good luck! Sorry for the rules, I am really in no place to set such rules I just want to make sure those participating try to all be consistent. :)

vatechguy May 2nd, 2005, 05:29 PM I'll have some start measurements up later today.
Edit: Starting Week 1 -

neck = 15.25
chest = 41.25
waist = 36
hips = 37.75
thigh - left = 24 thigh - right = 24.5
calf - left = 17.25 calf - right = 17
wrist - left = 7.5 wrist - right = 7.5
bicep - left = 13.25 bicep - right = 13.25

armenk May 4th, 2005, 01:50 AM My starting stats:
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 201.5 lb
BF%: 23.3 (1 site caliper), 27.7 (scale)
Neck: 15.75"
Chest: 40"
Waist: 41"
Hips: 42.25
Thighs: 24" (both)
Calves: 15.5" (both)
Wrists: 7" (both)
Bicep: 12" (both)
Lets do this :db:
Andrew M May 4th, 2005, 05:53 AM So here we all go. Luck to all, as long as I come out best.....
1 Snaps will be taken tonight.
2 Measurements
Height . . . . . 195cm (6'5")
Weight . . . . . 122.0kg (269)
The rest I won't be doing.
3 BF% . . . . . . 33.5% (impedence scales, reads high, but hopefully consistently so).
That gives me 40.87kg fat, and 81.13kg lean mass. With luck, my lean mass will not drop in the next weeks, so that my losses will be at least 80% fat mass. Here's hoping.
Andrew.

Speed Trials May 11th, 2005, 08:53 AM Week Two Measurements:
weight: 147.5
body fat: 12.38%
neck: 15.5
chest: 37.25
waist: 31.75
hips: 36.75
thighs: 21.5

(No changes other than weight and body fat)
Andrew M May 11th, 2005, 09:03 AM Wednesday #2 update
Wt . . . 120.8kg (-1.2kg from challenge start, -2.9kg in 2 weeks)
BF . . . . 33.5% (unchanged)
Despite the lack of change in BF%, I'm not displeased. I have done precisely zero exercise in the past 2 weeks, and all changes are due to diet modification. As this is my usual bugbear, whenever I can get my ass back to the gym, progress will accelerate.
Andrew.
armenk May 12th, 2005, 12:15 AM My numbers don't look good at all this week :d_frown: . I was pretty active all week but my meals could have been cleaner.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 203.5 lb (199.5 was the lowest during the last week)
BF%: 23.3 (1 site caliper), 28.4 (scale)
Neck: 15.75"
Chest: 41"
Waist: 41.5"
Hips: 43"
Thighs: 24" (both)
Calves: 15.5" (both)
Wrists: 7" (both)
Bicep: 12" (both)
Now that finals are over, I can focus a little better. I promise to you guys that next week I will be back with some better results. :tucool:
slush_puppy May 12th, 2005, 11:15 AM You guys should do what vatechguy did and post the difference along with the measurements. Otherwise, how can you tell how much progress you made? You may want to post two differences actually... the difference from the starting measurements and the difference from the last measurements taken. Good luck guys! :tucool:
vatechguy May 12th, 2005, 11:46 AM You may want to post two differences actually... the difference from the starting measurements and the difference from the last measurements taken.
That is a good idea! For week one the numbers are the same - but I think I will post it that way for subsequent weeks.
Thanks!
Rustomji May 12th, 2005, 01:04 PM I'd like to join this callenge, is it too late?

Weight . . . . . 121.2kg (-0.9kg from start, -2.6kg in 3 weeks, +0.3kg since last week)
BF% . . . . . . . 36.5% (I agree with Pug)
My weekly average has dropped by over a kilo in the past week, but today hasn't been such a good day. My diet has been less than perfect in the past few days. A temporary hiatus.
Andrew.
Wamsutta May 18th, 2005, 03:26 PM Can people still get in on this? I'll take my pics and measurements tomorrow morning if so. I need something - anything - to kick me firmly in the ass to get going again like I used to be able to.

Alarm clock is set; tomorrow I'm up with the sun to take pictures and then hit 45 minutes of LISS. :tu:
vatechguy May 19th, 2005, 09:16 AM COmbined with finding out my scale was a Piece of shite and just a really bad week eating wise - I blew off the weigh in yesterday. I'm sure the weight is up in a bad way. I'll get something up later today to show how far I've fallen.
Back on the horse so to speak.... :d_frown:
Wamsutta May 20th, 2005, 09:44 PM Taking the pics for this and weighing myself was sobering reality. I totally want to drop about 10. Tomorrow marks day 3 in a row of AM cardio - and it's a Saturday! :p
Going out to the pool hall tonight and plan on sticking to water/diet cokes. I need a second PWO meal, but nothing they have is remotely appropriate. If I could only get a grilled chicken/unsauced pasta dish there, I'd be set.
Eh, I'll eat when I come home.
Wamsutta May 22nd, 2005, 08:08 PM 4 days solid and counting. It's amazing how much better you feel knowing you're sticking to a diet, or at the very least, avoiding fattening temptations. It's been far too long since I've been on track like this.
This was just the kick I needed. I dropped my calories a couple hundred over the weekend just to shock my metabolism into doing something different than it's used to.
Tomorrow: treadmill in the AM, legs & chest with a buddy in the PM. It's going to be a tough one!
I'm going for perfection through Friday, that way I can truly enjoy my memorial day BBQ/party on Saturday. :tucool:
pug May 25th, 2005, 10:00 AM Due to my week off and a not so clean diet during all the graduation parties/festivities, my numbers are about the same... with a .4 lb loss in weight. Woo Hoo!
Back on track.
Pug
Andrew M May 25th, 2005, 10:19 AM Have been very bad recently, so don't want to reveal the horror that was the scales this morning. Am trying to get back on track, but think I'm completely out of the running in this challenge.
Andrew.
Wamsutta May 25th, 2005, 11:00 AM I've behaved dietarily and I've done cardio 6 of the last 7 days. I'm doing my weight/measurements/pics tomorrow morning, and hope to be pleased with the results.
vatechguy May 25th, 2005, 11:39 AM Measurements:
Weight - 220 (0 change) Starting over with a working scale this time
Bf% - 13.31% (3 point method - lower than reality but still (-.9 % from start -.3 from last week)
Measurements basically the same - it's been a bad two weeks for the diet. Weight is down about 3 pounds based on old scale/new scale comparisons.
Wamsutta May 26th, 2005, 09:42 AM Measurements and other updates in my signature link...
Basic change:
Last week: 219.5@24%
Today: 215.5@22%
Some water weight, probably a pound or so of legit fat loss. Progress is progress!
- Matt.
Wamsutta June 2nd, 2005, 09:06 AM No change since last week, although not for lack of trying... argh.
vatechguy June 2nd, 2005, 09:32 AM Measurements:
Weight - 220 (0 change) Started Creatine Friday - I'm hoping this is a factor
Bf% - 13.31% (3 point method - lower than reality but still (-.9 % from start)
Measurements basically the same - my diet is going 100% clean for June!
Next week I will see movement!!
vatechguy June 8th, 2005, 11:14 AM Well.. another week down the tubes.
I stayed clean all but two meals this week - one dinner I fell so far off the wagon I forget where I left it.
Nonetheless - 218 seems to be the sticking point this week. :D
Weight - 218 (-2 change from last week)
Bf% - 13.3% (3 point method - lower than reality but still (-.9 % from start)
Andrew M June 13th, 2005, 12:39 PM Life is never simple.
Wednesday past, my wife phoned, best message of all time (so far).
'Rowan stopped breathing, but he's ok now'.
Sweek fcuk thought I.
The poor wee man spent 2 nights in hospital, and is thankfully no worse for wear. Probably knows nothing about it, if truth be told, but it scared the complete shit out of Jack. He has an apnoea monitor for the next 2 months. They can't give us an definate cause, but all investigations are normal. The probable reason is a minor choke (he's been a bit dribbly recently) that prompted him to not breathe for about 90 seconds, even though Jack didn't hear him choking and she was in the same room. This can happen with very young kids, as the respiratory centre isn't fully developed until about 3 months, so they tell me.
Also, our computer at home has been slowly grinding to a halt over the past weeks, and finally died last Monday. It's covered by a 5-year insurance plan that Jack took out when she bought it. I have to confess, I thought she was mad at the time, but it has been worth it. This is the third time it had been on a serious blink, and the price of repairs (if you are as technically inept as myself) would have been painful. Since I wasn't in work, access has been zero since Wednesday. (In-box was a bugger).
Worry has been at an all-time high, and the preceeding days have been poor-willpower driven. I'm currently above starting weight, and hit a new lifetime maximum weight a few days ago. I'm hoping for some drive to appear from somewhere....
Andrew.
