I logged my food into Fitday and I'm getting alot of my calories from carbs. What can I eat to get more protein and up my calories? One thing my trainer told me was to eat around 1400-1600 calories a day. Maybe more- depending. I've been doing weight watchers and basically my bodys been in starvaation mode, at around 1000-1100 calories a day.

Tuna -- yes! I'm a tuna man! Also, chicken breast. Little more expensive, but a good alternative. I also use Whey powder from All the Whey which is an official sponser of JSF. Their prices are really cheap, and the taste is good. Whey powder is almost exclusively protein. It is a powder that must be mixed with something -- milk, water, oatmeal, etc. I've used all those and more. I would not rely on whey protein powder as a main source of protein, but as a supplement, it's pretty good and really cheap.

egg whites and tuna are my protein staples. I mix both with a 1/2 cup of peas to increase the calories, but not too many carbs. Both are great energy meals before a workout or midday slump.

If you cook at home, try the recipes in this file:
http://maggiewang.com/bfl/In2Nutrition_Recipes_PDF_All.pdf

If you eat 6 meals a day from those recipes, you'll be at 1400-1600 and 40/40/20.

Not a bad protein source either, but nothing beats the real solid food :eat: Oh, and just read the nutrition label first, because different protein shakes contains different amount of nutritional value. Read and find out which one suits your goal (in term of macro percentage and calories) :gl:

My meals are almost exactly 40/40/20 over the day (when I bother to enter them, it's right on target)..
Example:
M1: .5 c oats, .5 scoop whey, 1T peanut butter
M2: Protein Pancake (see numerous recipes - egg white/oats/cottage cheese/etc)
M3: Salmon Burger (Salmon patty on Ezekiel bun w/soy cheese)
M4: 1C cottage cheese with No fat/no sugar whole wheat chocolate muffin (homemade) or fruit
M5: Oats/whey/PB or chicken and brown rice w/veggies
M6: Protein shake (this is post workout)

This is on a maintenance diet - calories about 1800-2K so adjust portions appropriately for fewer calories. :)

Thanks for everyones suggestions. Been getting to the 40/40/20 mark...give or take a few more carbs... :o

Question- I ordered All the whey Chocolate blend. How does it taste? Is it blendable with non fat plain yogurt and skim milk?

I'm looking for something to have before I work out. I get home from work/picking my son up from school around 330 or so and then I go work out at 4pm...So between 3 and 4 I like to have a shake/smoothie.
Hoping this tastes good... :D

I'm quite a picky eater and I love Isopure! I get the biggest container of the powder and mix it with either milk or water, both taste great! I bet it would work in your smoothie!

Cottage Cheese...I do like it as an evening snack. Apparently it is a slower digesting proteine, good for nightime
