Why?

Just curious as to why you shave your hair off. Im in the "gonna wait till im cut" before i shave mine off. Did you shave it off before you got cut (15%) or were you always bald, reasons for doing so, and what do you think of it? Do you plan to go back to being hairy on top or leave it as it is.

My reasons:
Dont want to fuss around with hair in the morning.
Curiosity...never had a shaven head, so im itching to see what it looks like.

The reason i aint doing it now is i dont think my face suits it right now.

My son got into the clippers a few nights ago and took a big chunk right down the middle of his head..a reverse mohawk! So we shaved his head..he seems to like it. :D

Also,

There are a couple computer programs (virtual makeover..something like that??), you can usually find free trials online.

You can stick your headshot on and give yourself different haircuts. Might want to do that first, it'll give you at least a good idea of what you'll look like.

I was about 40lbs heavier when I first shaved my head in late 2003. I just wanted to see what it would be like. I liked it a lot and it is so much easier to take care of. You do nothing but shave a few times a week if you don't mind head stubble. If you do mind it you will have to shave every day but it really doesn't take that long and I think it is much easier to shave than my face. I plan on staying this way for a long time.

Considering my hairline is ticking away, I think I'm going to keep my hair as long as I don't have to comb it over... ;)

I do like to go pretty short during summer though.

I keep my hair very mowed down. Almost bald with my own clippers. I love the look and feel of a high and tight or total buzz. I got used to it in the military and love it. It's especially nice during the summer since it's so much cooler. Haircuts are also free, and don't have to comb it in the morning. It's also nice after swimming. I also am a rescue diver and in cold water, it's good since my hood fits without air pockets. Well, those are my reasons.

ask Jeremy Likness what its like... he decided that when he losses his fat he would shave his head..and he did...so go on and ask him how it is, or i reckon he'll probably post in this thread soon enough...

I've kept my head shaved since April of 2001. I'm naturally bald anyway, and trying to keep a straight hairline at the back of my neck was more trouble than it's worth. Shaving everything is just alot easier, and faster.
My tool of choice to get the job done...Schick Extreme 3 throw aways. I can get about 4 shaves out of each razor, and they actually work better after the first shave. Besides, the women really like it.

At one point in the year I kept my head shaved. Its a bit of a pain for me due to the way my hair grows in but I enjoyed the look. I keep it short these days with just a clipper. Its easy and you can't really screw it up.

Thanks for all the replies so far (keep them coming :) )

Did anyone you know react weirdly or were surprised? Most of my friends know me with long hair (my hair right now goes past down my nose - still growing), so it'll be a surprise to them.

I use clippers on my head and face. I've thought about wet shaving my head on a number of occasions, but the thought of also having to shave my face again puts me off. Besides, the way I'm built at the moment I'd just look like one of those grey chaps that's always abducting people from the woods.

Back when I was fat, I kept a really big, sloppy, white guy Afro. It was part of how I didn't take care of myself.

Nowadays, I like to keep a close crew cut, and if my hairline starts sneaking up there, I'm shaving it all off right away. Especially as I add a little more muscle and can pull off the requisite intensity level.

I love The Shield, and if it's good enough for Michael Chiklis, it'll be good enough for me.

When I started getting thin up top, I used clippers to take it all off. Not a razor, but clippers. My wife gives me another clip about every 4-6 weeks. Hair cuts are free. No shampoo or conditioner to buy or use. Showers can be quicker, my hair is never "out of place." I never have to dry my hair, etc. so easy to maintain. Any my wife likes the way it looks.

When it first happened, it took about a week or two for me to get used to it, and others got used to it pretty quickly, too. I did not like the look at first, but the ease of care convinced me of it. Now, I never want to go back, and I like the way it looks. It has become me.

Hope this helps.

I've used a "number 1" for about 7 or 8 years. I've just recently switched to shaving my head. One thing that's really surprising is that it grows back so quickly!

I gotta admit my head feels better with no hair 'cause I suffer from a flakey scalp and it's all clear when I've got no hair!

Cheers

I absolutely love having a shaved head.

- No hat-hair
- No bed-head (I can wake up and head right out the door to the gym)
- Quicker showers
- No hair care products (though I do use aloe on my scalp)
- It looks great (unless you have a weird-shaped head)
- No worries about going bald
- Never a bad haircut
- No waiting or paying for haircuts (I really hate waiting)
- If a bird shits on your head, easier cleanup. -- this actually happened to a buddy of mine the other day...a pelican dropped a huge bomb right on his head. It was all in his hair, and he couldn't get to a shower anytime soon.

I shaved mine once I had leaned out. It would have seemed a little strange if I was a higher bodyfat percentage. It works fine for some bigger guys with higher bf%, though.

haha thanks leftnut :D
also thanks to the other responses, much appreciated.

Ive tried googling to see whether a bald head suits a certain face shape but no luck on that.

I haven't had a haircut since September 2003 and now it's a little past my shoulder blades. The ponytail can get annoying when working out, but long hair is who I am so it's not going anywhere any time soon. In fact I plan to grow it for another 3 years and see how long it is by then, and maintain that length.

IMO long hair goes VERY well with a 6 pack. It's a shame that most girls I ask say chin length is about the longest they'll go. Mine'll nearly be down to my waist

by that time it'll be down to your ass man

The convenience of it all is quite nice and the look is growing more on me now its not totally shaven look, but I'd still prefer the down to upper lip length... its a shame that long hair doesn't have the same maintenance as short/no hair.

Definitely. I have to set aside hours when I wash my hair to let it dry. There are days when I want short hair, but those thoughts last only a few minutes and aren't that frequent. My friend who had even longer hair than mine shaved it all off the other week because maintenance was really getting to him after 4 years of growing it. Guess that's the price we pay.

Shaved my head two years ago for swimming and I will never ever do it again. By shave, I mean buzz all the hair off and then took the razor to it.

It was a horrible experience, mostly because I didn't like how it looked. But, sure as hell, your can flip turn faster than you can blink with it like that.

I hate those few minutes you are speaking of. I gave in about a month ago and I regretted it as soon as I did it.

Did you lose any major length? Gonna grow it back (if it was long that is)?
