Well, here we are. First time I've every posted this sort of info to the world......intimidating yet somehow a relief. How strange...

Summary of the journey so far.

About 8 weeks ago someone at work mailed around a link to John's site with the title "There's hope for me yet". It was a mild mickey taking exercise, as the guy who sent it is quite thin and by no means has the inclination to either fitness or body building - at least as far as I can tell. Maybe he'll surprise me... Anyhow, I followed the link and had a look at the page. As I scrolled down I found John's before and after shots and was gobsmacked. John's before shot was neigh on identical to how I look - he just doesn't have my man boobs. :) I then studied John's after photo thinking someone must have done some sort of Photoshop action. I perused the site for another 10 minutes, blown away by what I saw and read. I mailed the link home and decided the site needed further attention.

About 2 weeks ago I went through my inbox and found the link again. I went back to Johns site and did a little more reading. That night I decided that Johns approach was for me and decided that it was time for immedate action. I already had a gym membership and decided that the following day I would replace my standard cardio "workout" (it was more of a doddle really) with John's early HIIT program. I continued with my weight routine (which exercised the same muscles multiple times a week). My other change was to replace my 3 meals a day with 6 smaller meals. This made the first day of my new lifestyle Sunday the 8th of February. I weighted 115kg's (253lbs).

Since then I have:

- learned about and implemented a 40/40/20 carb, protein, fat diet
- calculated my calorie intake at 10 x body weight and adjusted it per week to match my new weight
- changed from a weights routine which works muscles multiple times a week to one which works them only once
- learned new exercises

Goals:

Gotta have them.

- Target weight of 85 kg's (187 lbs)
- Body fat of around 12%
- Build chest
- Build arms

Some general, some specific.

24 February 2004:

Today, for the purpose of this first journal entry I re-weighed myself. I have lost 2.5 kg's (5.5 lbs) and weigh in at 112.5 kg's (248 lbs) - not to mention dropping a notch in my belt.

Today's gym session was.....non-existant. Slept through the alarm. This won't happen again, I'm cranking the volume on the alarm. However I'll compensate to a small degree by going for a walk when I'm done with this entry.

Calories consumed today: 2200
Split: 50% carbs, 19% fat, 31% Protein.

Now for that walk.......

Well, I did the walk......haven't measured it yet, but I think it's about 4km.

1 March 04:

I did my regular Friday (27/2) check and found I'd come down yet another 1 kg (2.2lbs odd) to 111kgs. I was most pleased with this, although I didn't make the gym that day. Instead I was headed to Melbourne for a 2 day trip (1400km round trip) to retrieve a car trailer and car. This unfortunately meant that my eating routine went out the window and I had no chance to excercise. The result - I gained 2.5 kg's (5 1/2 lbs). 4 weeks of work to loose 4 kg's and over half of that back after 3 days!!!!! Oooo that makes me mad.

Back to the gym tomorrow morning and back to the regular diet.

Well, it's been some time since I updated my journal. Since the last entry things have slipped slightly. I've was unhappy with my gym (had to fight with other people for equipment), hence I cancelled my membership. Last Friday I joined a much better gym and this morning began the journey of my lifestyle change again.

9 March 2004:

My weight is currently 111.5 kg's (246 lbs). My food intake is back on track with 5 meals per day, shooting for 2200 calories with a 40/40/20 split. This mornings excercise consisted of 23 minutes of HIIT on the stationary bike (new gyms bikes seem to work me harder than the old ones) and weights on the arms (3 x 12 reps of curls (12.5 kg dumb bells) and 3 x 12 reps of tricep extensions (12.5 kg dumb bells).

Finally, the walk is 4.1km.... :tu:

This totalled 2426 calories with 47% carbs, 25% fat and 26% protein. I'm stuggling to find Protein alternatives at the moment......I need something to replace the carbs I eat at meals. I will continue the search.

Finally, weight is down to 110kg's (242.5 lbs).
