Well, I figured I would hide this in the women's thread since it doesn't get as much traffic. I debated posting this at all, because I'm no where near where I want and need to be with my BF% coming in at 25%, (it's easy to hide them on my blog, no one visits.. :D ....) But I guess it's a good tracking picture. Anyway, I have NO idea how to pose and flex to get it to show up right on camera. DH told me what to do, but I lost a lot of the definition I actually have - so what are the tricks to getting it to show up? (besides dropping the 10% of BF I am working on losing right now.)

This was me yesterday. I notice a lot of people take their photos in mirrors themselves so they can tell when they're flexing right - is that the best way to do it?

You look AWESOME KYRA!!!! Very very nice arms. You definetly look powerful! :tu: Keep up the good work.

As far as getting good pictures showing definition. I'm not sure that it's possible ( or very hard) to get good pictures of your true definition when taking one's own picture. I use the mirror cause that's the only way I can get the pics lol since dh and my schedule's are so hectic, also no tripod and don't know how to use the camera's timer lol.

I know there are way's to pose that will show the best definition but I have no clue how to do them. I think there is a sticky post in the picture forum here that tells you how to take better pics ( need to check that thread out myself).

Your arm has a very nice shape -- Looks solid too. You shouldn't feel the least bit self-conscious posting your pics -- You look good.

You look great! A few weeks ago on on your blog you mentioned that you were going for personal training and seemed like some women didn't believe it - well, you look rocked enough to be a personal trainer. So there.

Hey gorgeous. ;) Wow, nothing wrong with that photo. Great lighting. Did you put any lotion or oil on your arm? It seems to have a nice sheen to it, which helps in the definition.

When I take pictures of my abs, I usually take them in the mirror, but sort of in reverse. I point the camera towards me, but I can see in the mirror what shows on the camera display. I have no idea the best poses to get the definition to show. I just take LOTS of shots, and one or two of them is bound to be good. Each time I take photos, I have a better idea about which poses are most flattering, and about how to position my body in the correct way. Why not get DH to take the photos?

I agree. I recently posted pictures of my bulk starting point in the media section. I took the pictures myself using the mirror. They came out ok, but I'm sure I could've gotten better ones if I got someone esle to do it. I just didn't care that much. But even from what you posted not under optimal conditions, you're looking good! Keep up the good work!

Thanks you guys :) I felt like a complete idiot posing, but you all just made me feel good about it! :D

Guava - we tried some lotion, just for kicks... I think DH had more fun putting it on me, than it really having any affect. :o

Thanks again! :) (gosh I just feel all warm and fuzzy inside now..hehe)

And why would you want to hide?

That's proof positive to all those naysaying post-baby hotties that you can get your sleek self back.

Nice muscles - more women need those kinds of cuts and curves.

Hope the PT stuff is coming along Kyra - you deserve every bit of it.

I lost a lot of the definition I actually have - so what are the tricks to getting it to show up? I notice a lot of people take their photos in mirrors themselves so they can tell when they're flexing right - is that the best way to do it?

The mirror helps. It sounds silly - but spend some time after the little ones are in bed in front of the mirror in your bathroom naked. Practice flexing and get a feel for how each part feels when its completely flexed.

Then take a WHOLE BUNCH OF PICS flexing in front of your camera. As an artist you know out of 1000 pictures - usually 2 or 3 really capture what you wanted to when you started.

I had a buddy of mine put it into perspective for me one time - he said as a parent we're all pretty arrogant when we whip out the digital camera and pose our kids and snapp off a pic or two and then get bent out of shape that the pictures look so bad. He talked about when he was a photographer for hire - either you made people pose perfect - or you winged it and took A LOT of shots - then wade throught what wasn't right and picked out the good stuff.

I thought and thought about what he said and realized how right he was. My wife gets mad at me cause I take so many pics of our kids now - but for every 100 or so I take - there will be 2 or three that I really step back from and think I captured my kids perfectly. ;)

also no tripod and don't know how to use the camera's timer lol.

Two key components - a travel tripod and a camera with a timer - makes it all SO much easier. Learn how to use the timer function - its cool and even if you have to prop up the camera on a stack of books - it makes it easy to get to see what you want without relying on outside help.

I still think you look great though!!! :spaz:

Keep up the good work. You are making good progress. Everyone has give n you some good advice. I usually place my camera on a counter top or something - Although I have a tripod. I agree with taking a ton of pics with different poses to see what kind of pics they yield.

99 times out of 100 it's the Lighting not Composition.......show me anybody's photo album and I'll show you a lot of pictures that would have been a lot better if the lighting was right........One of the problems with most small cameras of this era is that the flash is right beside the lens.....this will produce "red-eye". Rather than make a camera with an isolated flash (which isn't popular.....most people want the 007 shirt-pocket job) they ignore it and leave it up to the developer or photo-shop software to offer "red-eye removal". Frontal lighting is flat and shows no detail.......as you will notice on your driver's license picture. You don't need a ton of fancy equipment to produce side and rear lighting but one thing you should know if making a color picture is that light has temperature (degrees Kelvin)......therefore if you use the two night-table lamps with a normal 100 watt bulb in them you will produce a reddish palor because these bulbs are at the "red" end of the spectrum..........use "daylight" type bulbs instead ( these usually have a light blue coating on them). Most people however do not use daylight bulbs for everyday use because they like the warmer glow of a "normal" bulb which by the way is not all that good for your well-being..........Fluorescent lighting can mess up your picture bigtime but there are filters available for SLR type cameras which in many instances you can't get for the shirt-pocket jobs because the shirt-pocket camera of today is basically sold as a jewellery accessory.........camera flashes for the most part aare about 5600 degrees Kelvin which is just barely out of the "red" end of the spectrum......normal blue sky is about 18 to 20,000 degrees Kelvin......also consider a "slave " unit..these are dirt cheap in used camera shops and fire remotely when the camera flash does.......you can also tape a piece of "diffuser" over your flash to get softer lighting but be very careful what color it is...........................some of the best pictures I've ever seen of people's faces were made with no flash and used natural daylight sidelighting..............pro photographers on assignment usually don't try to take "one " good picture.....they'll shoot till they're out of ammo, making adjustments as they shoot and then culling later..........don't be afraid to experiment.

Well, I like the picture as it is!

I usually take my pics (after liberal application of tan in a bottle if it's an "after" shot) during daylight hours, flash disabled, light coming from the windows to my left so I get SOME definition, and camera with 10 second timer set on a shelf at the other end of the living room around shoulder height. I used to have a tripod, but the ex-bf decided he wanted it back last month so I had to give it up.

Oh, and I have a cheap $5 full length mirror propped up against the bookshelf, too, so I can check for good poses.
