Help!...When I started out on my fat loss, I wanted a lean, muscular look. What's turning out? Well, something IS working. I don't know what to do now though. I know this may sound weird to some people, but it just is not the look I want! Instead of being LEAN and muscular, I am starting to look....BIG and muscular. How can I revert this. I don't want to be "big"!!! Should I cut my calories more? I average 2000 a day, sometimes 2500 depending on the day. I consume a decent amount of protein...I am not lifting extremely heavy weights. I try to retain, and not build huge muscle, while I am cutting. Infos...5'10, 19 yrs old, 175 lbs. (PS, I stayed at 180ish lbs for a good 2 to 3 months, then I started loosing more weight just recently...on the same kind of diet. What might THIS mean?). Thanks for any replies in advance.

Got a picture or body fat estimate? Hard to imagine what 175lbs would be like on your 5'10 frame, as it could be flab around the middle, or just as you note, muscle build-up

if you are actually getting more muscle mass, i would personally try and create it and use it to burn the fat quicker. When thats done, i'll lower my calories some more to get leaner.
I think you should see what the end result looks like before wanting to slow muscle progress down. Not sure what BF% you are on now, but if you still have a fair bit of fat then that might make you look bigger than you will actually become. If that made any sense..

A problem most wish they could have...

Anyway, if you're gaining mass, that means your calories are at a surplus, and so you're not cutting, maybe you should keep complete track of your nutrition in determining the proper amount for you.

If your weight hasn't really moved much and you're losing fat, take measurements, because muscle is more compact and defined, maybe you're not really as big as you think

I dont know, maybe it's all in my head...I still got fat on me (or loose skin or something). Whatever the case, I am not at the end result, and I am not fully happy with it. What I should keep doing at any rate, I suppose, is continue cutting, exersizing, and lifting. Couldn't hurt, right? Maybe cycle my calories down a little. I will post pics when I get a decent camera...Only got old ones up atm. My cameraphone does not give a very accurate depiction of what I look like...

I think you're probably fine. I don't see any reason to cycle your calories down if you're losing fat even if you are gaining muscle. You're young enough and probably new enough to weight training (how long?) that losing fat and gaining muscle is entirely possible at the same time. That's excellent! If this is where you are, enjoy it! It's the rare person that can continue to do this as they get older and become more of a seasoned lifter, though it is possible.

I suspected this, I have slowly lost fat, and stomach weight, but must have gained muscle in this time period. Reason I say this is my weight changes very slowly. I stayed at 180 lbs for a good 3 months before i broke down into the 175's. I now stay around 175, and have been there a few weeks, and do not see it changing anytime soon. I have been weight training for only 4 or 5 months, I have been doing cardio almost everyday now, as opposed to me only doing it 3 times a week prior. When I say this, I jog the whole time (sprinting at the end) for 30-45 minutes. I do not walk at all. I recently changed this - used to briskly walk, and sprint in intervals, averaging 8-10 minutes actual running time, and the rest brisk walking. Despite this idea, I have not made too much stregnth gains. The only stregnth gain I have made is going from 50 lbs (dumbell bench press) to 65 lbs. For some reason normal incline benchpress is very weak, and my other exersizes have remained roughly the same. Nonetheless, I am going to continue the way I am going. When I am satisfied with my results, and dropped more BF, I will post pics. Hopefully I can bring a shocker to you all if I do it correctly. =P
