This is embarassing...anyways, when you ride on the exercise bike do your, uh "twig and giggle berries" go numb? Mine do after about 15 minutes. I don't think its good, seeing as how apparently no blood is getting to the area. It is frustrating because I can't weight train with my legs because of my knees. Really, my doctor told me not to. He said all i can do is walk/run and ride the excerisise bike to keep them strong. Anyways, am I weird?

Well, no....I can't say that this has happened to me. Have you tried changing the position that you sit on the seat and see if it has any effect? Or, have you tried using a recumbent bike, if you have one available?

Nope never happened to me. My advice though, try to bring a towel or something to put under the "Cash and Prizes". Sort of like a little pillow...might help.

Can't say my meat and potatoes have ever gone numb on the bike, but it does get annoying when they can't find a good place to stay still in my boxers. I would definitely discontinue the bike though if that's the case.

This is a known problem in cyclists, particularly those who spend a lot of time on a bike. It is due to compression of nerves/arteries in the perineum. Check out this link:

I went to a bicycle shop and bought a seat with a long groove down the middle to put on my bike. It is made especially to reduce the problem. Hope this helps.

Yes- Smalltex has it. It was a problem for me when riding centuries.

Towards the end of a long bike ride I can hardly stand up because it feels like my eurethra (the pee hole) has been permently crushed like a dump truck over a straw. Looking to invest in a new seat.

In addition, as any biker will tell you, adjust where you butt is on your seat often. (same thing with your hands on your handlebars) Stand up as much as you can, especially when you get towards the top of those hills.

Oooo -- and I got a whole bunch of tips for chaffing, but that doesn't seem to be your problem.

Yup, the ol' frank and beans used to go numb on me as well when riding the standard upright exercise bike. I switched to recumbent and the problem was solved.

I am ROFL at seeing 'frank and beans', 'twig and giggle berries', etc. :) :) :)

The weathers getting beautiful here so I'm thinking of investing in a bike, I think I'm going to get some sort of decent seat to combat that problem when I do. But ouch, the urethra straw comment really made me cringe.

I'd suggest seeing a sports physical therapist about your legs. They would know if you really shouldn't work your legs, or what you can do. Definitely better than your standard doctor.

Get a bike seat with a hole in it. Don't let the twizzler and gum drops go numb!

Yes-I experienced this problem when I was doing triathlon training. But I don't have it now, just going for a half hour or 45 minute bike-ride. Adjust your butt a lot like Stecman said and stand up too. Good for going anaerobic as well. A top quality seat can help a lot.

Is this where the phrase "numb-nuts" came from?

Anyway, on a bicycle the seat should be level or slightly nose-down (especially for men). Too little and little Jimmy goes to sleep. Too much and you put too much pressure on your hands.

common problem. the recumbant bike keeps my wedding tackle in the proper position. in order to win cash and prizes the captain and his mates need to take care of their block and tackle.

I have no suggestions to add, I'm just glad my caulkenbahlz don't go numb on the bike.

The problem I have is slightly different. The part that goes numb when Im on the stationary bike is my rear end . By the end of the cardio session its usually a mixture between numbness and extreme pain. You really have to switch positions before the problem gets to the point where you cant feel your junk.

Ive heard that many cyclists (not recreational ones, but the ones who spend hours and hours on the bike) damage their penile artery from the bike seat to the point where they cant get an erection anymore.
Im certainly hoping that wont be the case with my 45 minute cardio sessions. :d_frown:

I think you should be fine. Don't let it worry you too much. When I was doing triathlon training, my mother would nag me about this all the time. Now, I'm back to 45 minute or half hour cardio sessions. But I can assure you there were no problems like that before.
