View Full Version : Movie database?
superman0218 April 6th, 2005, 05:51 AM Hi,
I remember a long time ago John had some kind of movie database... I can't seem to find it anymore though. I'm curious because I have a lot of DVDs and would like to organize them in a database that is searchable my movie title, actor name, etc. etc.
Does anyone have the link to John's, or have one of their own I can use?
Thanks!

Arwes April 6th, 2005, 06:58 AM If you're handy with PHP and MySQL, here's a good one:

I had a friend help me set it up on a home machine a year or so ago and it was great. I used it to keep up with who had my DVDs. Also helped that I could look at it and make sure I don't buy something I've already got. (It saved me from that at least twice)
Would still have it if my hard drive didn't die. Damn you IBM and your Deathstar drives! I was too mad about losing all my stuff I keyed in to put it all back. I'll probably set it up again though.
Bluestreak April 6th, 2005, 08:31 AM Why create your own? Let IMDB (http://www.imdb.com) do the work. ;) It won't catalog your DVD's, but still... they have all the detailed info. Although, some of it isn't complete and sometimes it's even incorrect...

When Lisa and I quit smoking we decided to take that money and put it towards something to reward ourselves for not smoking. We both love movies, so that something was DVDs and home theater. We started doing that almost 5 years ago. It's amazing how much money we were spending on smokes. I was smoking 3 packs per day, and Lisa was smoking a pack per day. That's $70+ per week TO KILL OURSELVES.
These days I don't spend even close to what I was spending on cigarettes on DVDs, but when we first quit it really helped keep us on track and I never picked up another smoke again.

You should send your story to the Truth (Association?). It would be a hell of a non-smoking ad. I dream to have a collection like your one day John...1 day.

superman0218 April 7th, 2005, 06:10 AM Those databases are good, I was looking for something that I could download and use myself though.. anyone have anything like this? An MS Access database would be best for me.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Check these out, they are 100 times better than an Access database.

supaspic April 7th, 2005, 01:20 PM Hey John, Are all those movies you own favorites? I guess I would have a big collection if I bought every movie I considered OK, but I only buy movies that blew me away. I was wondering, cause I know people who just collect movies because they were on sale and they saw it once and were like, "That movie was OK, I guess I'll buy it." Was just wondering.
P.S. Where did you get that movie shelf, I live in the Orlando area, and have been wanting to merge my collection with my Girlfriends and we need to find a pretty big shelf.

Nah, I buy many of them "blind". We don't go to the theater anymore (no time, too many annoying distractions) and the cost of a DVD is generally less than two movie tickets anyway. I periodically sell large batches of DVDs I no longer want on eBay so it all works out.
P.S. Where did you get that movie shelf
