Hey, i'm looking for a challange with someone. I wouldn't mind placing a wager either, depending on the challange, i think it would be fun. I'm up for a challange, let me know the details.

My Stats

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 200
BFC: 17.8%

I'll do it 1 on 1 with u. We should post pics every 2 weeks. I've let myself go pretty bad the last week due to a stress fracture in my foot preventing me from running, plus being back home eating my mother's homemade chocolate chip brownies. I need something to motivate me into giving it my all for the rest of April so im ripped come June.

My Stats:
-------------
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180.4
BF%: 12-13%
Goal: 8%

I'm kinda' interested too (if there's still room) as my BF% may be similar (when averaged between both the scale's & tape measure's two different readings).

But what's the goal? Get to a certain BF% ?

Tue, April 5th, 2005, 02:29 PM
i was thinking whoever's ΔBF% @ ΔTime(t) was the greatest would win or something. I have the biggest challenge cuz dropping the last few bf% is always the toughest, and ive been trying for months now.

Id say we all take before pics (today) and not post them until the end of the month with the after pictures.

yeah, sounds good. i'll see if i can take some pics today. Hmm, this is my first challenge i'm excited. haha. Ya i say the we base it on the best overall change, based on BF% and weight in the amount of time we choose. How long shall it be?

I have a website, we can also put up our stats there daily? I think that would be pretty cool. let me know.

I plan to eat a little cleaner and start doing cardio, i already lift throughout the week, i'm in a couple weight lifting classes at my school. I was 190 at the beginning of december and i've gained about 10lbs:( hopefull this will help me get to my ultimate goal of 160-170, good luck!

can I get into this too? I used to run a lot, but messed my hip up back in Jan. Put on about 15 lbs and just recently been riding my stationary bike to try and get some of this weight off. I don't know if my bodyfat is really accurate. I just used some website and plugged the numbers in. When I first joined my gym they told me it was 13 % and I weighed 157 lbs. This is the website i used http://www.he.net/~zone/prothd2.html
Don't know if it's the best, but I'll use it for consistency in the challenge if there's still room and time.

am i the only one in this challenge now?

Nope, ur def. not the only one in this challange. Sorry I haven't been updating, i go to school and work fulltime. But I will try to update as much as possible. I just got back from my work out about 20 min. ago. An hour on the stationary bike, and i tried to touch base on all muscle groups. I got home and weighed myself

Weight: 196.0
BF%: 16.6

:-D that's pretty amazing to me, i started the week at 201, but I think it'd be mostly water weight. Although I have been doing an hour of cardio for the past 4 days. hmm, so no my friend u are not the only one in the challange ;) I am keeping daily logs of my weight morning and night and my BF% daily.

I think if i can start eating healthier i might get results even faster... but I am in college, w/no transportation so i can't really just go to the store and get what i need :-\ but I shall go this weekend after work.

Good Luck!

...does anyone have AIM?

Sorry, haven't been able to get into this yet... It's been on my mind continuosly though...

Regretably, I've been quite tired & sore this past week and I feel that the last two months of not eating enough have finally caught up with me. I think maybe I've started to fall into that over-training spiral so I've given myself a few days to eat a little more, reevaluate and not push things so hard (last week, I thew in a few, new major exercises in that I've been neglecting so far) before I jump into anything new & sobotage my progress further.

I'm going for some exercise now and hopefully I can get things going full steam ahead again...

Well, I thought I was doing so well yesterday. Then bam, last night I binged on half a loaf of bread and bunch of chips. I thought maybe I would just have a little bit, but I couldn't stop myself. I was soooo hungry. I should have just went to bed and I would've been fine. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though because the longest I've ever managed to stay on my diet plan was for 3 weeks back in september. It's just so damn hard. I guess I'll just keep trying anyway. I'm off to the gym to work off my over indulgence last night. :bb:

yea... i screw up ALOT! thats why i've only lost 4 or 5 bf% since christmas. I do great all week, then the weekends come and i figure "everyone else eats like shit 24/7, its not going to hurt if i eat like shit today only"

but it does. i should know my body well enough by now to know that i gain fat VERY VERY easily.

Best thing you can do is try to eat clean as much as you can. any little bit helps.

Glad to finally contribute to this - sorry it took so long... Seems like you're really organized and ready to kick some butt. You sure got up early the other day - wow!

...I wish, think I need to get down to around 210 or so for some magic to happen. I may start some morning "fasted" cardio. Just a little paranoid it's going to make any progress go backwards so I've only done that 2 or 3 times so far in the last two months.

The main problem I have is I really enjoy spending time in the morning with my wife & two little girls. I guess I'll just have to get up before them...

if you're going to binge - binge on carbs, not on fats. fat calories add up like MADDD, and even though it doesnt cause an insulin spike, they still fuck u in the ass 2 days later. i feel 12% today. im scared to even use the bf% function of my scale.

Fasted cardio again for me this morning. For some reason half way through my stomach has been going "BAM !" "OUCH !" and then after a minute or two it goes away & I just feel normal hunger again.

getting started on fasted cardio is one of the hardest things iv ever had to do. first thing in the morning is NOT the time where humans want to go excersize. but, if you just force yourself to do it for 3 or 4 days straight, it becomes routine and you actually get depressed if you miss a day.

Well today I went for another run and damn are my legs sore. Although at least my shoes are comfortable. I think I'm gonna cut back on my weight lifting and just try to maintain what muscle I gained and focus more on the cardio. So if I eat before I run am I burning the food in my stomach as opposed to fat in my body? I don't think I have the discipline to go on an empty stomach like you guys.

I'm not going to weigh myself for a week. I get too depressed when i see the scale go down lately. i get very worried. didnt weigh myself today - i'll weigh myself next saturday.

Love the new diet, im really liking coliflower + brocoli + carrots. its a great combination. Had a total of 5 cups yesterday. Its just too bad i bought a shitty brand of green beans. They're more of an olive color, and they have a real... papery taste/texture to em. not very enjoyable.

my upper body seems to be looking great lately. judging by the scale and the fact that i'm 6'2 173 lbs, i should theoretically have no muscle mass really. but then when i look in the mirror i seem to look pretty good in my chest and arms. but today i noticed my legs/ass area - very slender. i never worked my legs much when lifting until this week because running had always worked them for me. or so i thought.

Today is lifting day, but im going to skip the leg workout - they are still sore.

about the fasted running... i dont know for sure. but from what i've read from swolecat and anthony ellis - in fasted cardio (@70% max hr for 45 minutes) the last 25 minutes of it you will be burning fat, and then another 2 hrs afterwards as well. (assuming you dont eat carbs within 45 minutes after running). since im no scientist, i'll just trust them.

JabbaTheGutt
Sat, April 16th, 2005, 10:31 AM
Glad your liking your diet. I know what you mean about the green beans - I'm very picky when it comes to freshness with my fruits & vegetables.

Going for some fasted cardio again and I think I may go with weights (Chest / Tri's) later this afternoon seeing as I took a whole week off from weights.

I'm getting somewhat used to only having a plain cup of Green Tea before the low intensity cardio on an elliptical but I'm not so sure I would continue it if I was running for my cardio.

This is the first week of fasted cardio & it would be nice if I could complete it earlier in the morning - maybe next week.

Tomorrow (Sunday) will be rest & enjoy the weather day.

Not many changes yet - I think I'm in this for longer than 6 weeks - for me anyways... it sure took a whole lot longer than that to get all this darn fat piled on...

Chow for now,

I think I'm gonna ditch this challenge and go for the fattest man in the world challenge because that's pretty much the way things have been going lately. Anyway sorry for dropping out, but I'm sure you guys can do it. Good luck Jabba and whOareume. :tu:

BUT - looking in the mirror this morning, id guess 11-12%. looking very thin. even though i dont want to be thin either, i need to get down to a low enough bf% where my love handles and lower stomach area disappear, so with any future fat gains i dont gain back those trouble spots - it will spread evenly.

jabba - how you feeln' today? do you think its the flu or jsut a cold? i was sick a couple times this past year, and i just didnt feel like doing anything excersize related. good to see your still visiting the site though.

Event log:

Too hard to keep up, but ill try to at least track how much water i drink while at work. each glass is 16 oz, and i go through about 2 per hour, for 8 hrs, so thats 16*16 oz of water. how many gallons is that?

So you're quitting all fitness related activity? i dont get it. why quit? at least bulk, dont quit getting in shape. if you're constantly craving food - then bulk.

Hey BlueThunder, I really hope you reconsider this. Nobody expects you to get the perfect body, it just doesn't happen for a lot of people (raises hand). The reason we're all here is because we're all making changes, some big and some small, in our daily lives to improve our health and appearance. The whole idea of being in a challenge is not to compete with the other people, but to get support from them. If you have a bad day, even a bad week, what's done is done and we all just pick up and keep going from there. Take a couple of days off if you need a break, but give it some serious thought before you throw in the towel completely. That's the last thing anyone wants to see you do.

Just because WhOareume's looking nice & thin with is side love handles gone and arms pumped up like balloons doesn't mean we should quit this challenge. (j/k) :D

"Blue", what about all that Tea you drank - can't let it go to waste...

I knew I had been over working things so I purposely took a week off weights and then I caught some kind of bug on Sunday (maybe a flu as I was weak & my Temp was up for several days) and have been totally out of commission since (no cardio for five days now :( ). I feel like Jello but now I can't wait to get back at it. My BF% has crept back up on the scale even though my weight has dropped (probably dehydrated). I may try cardio today and maybe weights tomorrow.

I personally have been thinking all along that it would be cool if we kept this "challenge" going not just for six weeks but until each of us makes our goal. I know I still have quite a ways to go...

"Blue"... It wouldn't hurt for you to take time off & it might even help reset your metabolism & let you rest up, etc. We'll still be here & remember this was only a friendly challenge mostly for us to get together & help each other stay motivated... Your goal is within reach & there are many people who would love to work from where you are... You can do it - now show us some THUNDER !

Weight: 171.4
BF: 12%

i'm going to start using calipers for my bf measurement. I just dont think this is very accurate. i hate this scale, and it makes me feel too skinny.

i cant wait to start bulking. just a little more stomach fat to get rid of. I think i'll really enjoy eating constantly.

okok, i NEED to get to work now.

Have a good day. GL jabba.

Funny how weight usually goes down after eating better eh?

Don't feel too bad. I almost feel like I've had a cheat week as I haven't done any cardio all week from being sick. And to make it worse, the week before that was no weights as I was trying to recover from overtraining - so in total, two weeks of slacking off - although last week wasn't exactly my fault.

I'm still somewhat congested & spitting up phlegm with blood so I haven't been able to talk myself to get back at it yet - but soon. I've been making sure that I haven't went to far off nutrition wise (maintenance right now) but I do miss having the exercise to put me into a deficit & can hardly wait to get active again.

Now go eat some Oreo cookies & feel good about it "Kramer" - nice pics by the way... you lean, mean, Oreo machine... :tu:

Hey there Mr. Gump;

Well, I'm back at it. I completed fasted cardio yesterday & this morning and maybe getting back to weights later this evening.

That makes two weeks with no weights & 8 days without cardio. Oh well, at least the two months prior to that were good.

I really don't want another cold for a looooong time now...

Hey there W;

:tu: Glad to see you're still interested in this one too - haven't really heard from the others so I haven't bothered posting a whole lot on here - are you still out there fellas?

June 1st. sounds good... Should be better than the one month thing as I missed alot due to being overtrained & then being ill.

I may also be updating our personal journal on May 8th. as it will be one month from my our (wife & I) last pics.

Just finished my fasted cardio (45 min.) and am gettig cleaned up so I can have my breakfast in another 30 minutes...

Big confession time... I still haven't gotten back into the weight training. For some reason my arms (especially on top of my forearms) are quite sore - even after the 2-3 weeks off (have to check my calendar / log). Any idea why that would be? Regardless, I plan to get going on weights again very soon as I know how important they are.

Nutrition is still decent & cardio has been good also.

i think i messed up somewhere this weekend with my diet, but im not sure where. is ham bad for you? had alot of ham yesterday for a mothersday feast.

lifted yesterday. chest/biceps/triceps/forarms. have you ever lifted while having a headache? not fun.

my caliper measurments went down to mid 11's from 13 last week.

JabbaTheGutt

Hey W;

Hope you recovered from all that salty Ham...

Going for some Cardio now (kinda late, I know) & thought I'd check in.

Took a day off yesterday and am glad to say I'm finally braving the "weights" again but taking it slowly (did Chest / Tris on Saturday). Glad I still have some strength but I don't want to overtrain like before and end up really sore.

Went driving some golf balls on Mothers' Day (Sunday) and am feeling it pretty good in my upper leg / hip / waist area - ouch!. At least my back's okay. Funny how when you do something you haven't done in a long time it reminds you of all those areas you never think about.

Anyways off to my friend the elliptical, I go... Get to watch 2 Seinfelds back to back at 6:00.

G

P.S. Any of the original gang from this challenge still out there? It's not too late to continue...

Update:

i'm gaining weight, and the bf% is dropping. i contribute this to using my leg muscles again with running and biking.

178.4 lbs, (+5 lbs from last week)
11.12% bf (caliper - 3 site method) (down almost a full % from last week)
11% (electronic scale)

jabba - you're from canada? do you fish?
one of the best times of my life is when i did a fly-out fishing trip in Ontario (sp?).. i caught a small fish, as it was right by the boat (still in the water) it was eaten by a big northern. is this possible? was i dreaming?

JabbaTheGutt
Thu, May 12th, 2005, 11:18 AM
I don't fish, not since I was around 12 or so. I still really enjoy boating though... I would never recommend people eating stuff out of Lake Ontario but my Father-In-Law & his friends still do. Some of the other Lakes are okay - especialy up North. There were many beautiful places when we lived out West in British Columbia too.

Sounds like you had a strange fishing experience - Sounds quite possible. Hmmm, Maybe it was a sign...

Weight: 175.2 (+ 2.4 lbs from last friday)

http://rustyiron.net/accumeas.jpg

Friday's End of week 2 skinfold measurements:

Pectorial:
6, 6, 6 mm

Abs:
15, 16, 14 mm

Thigh:
16, 16, 16 mm

Age:
23.5 yrs

Calculated BF%
10.493559788251104 (down 1% from last week)

used this method (http://rustyiron.net/formmale.htm)... i do it the same each time, so whether im 10% bf or 12% (i look more 12% or 13% in the mirror) it doesnt matter. its a number that's going down.

JabbaTheGutt
Fri, May 20th, 2005, 10:02 PM
I need to get some of them calipers - the scale varies too much. I did see a cheap pair of plastic calipers for a buck at the dollar store which measure in different ways. I wonder if they would work? I'd order a nice set online but I don't want to end up getting anything from over the border as Customs and delivery can be a real pain in the butt.

I once won a stearing wheel cover for my Honda and UPS ended up charging me $40 for Customs, delivery and some stupid "brokerage" type fee which I didn't authorize but it was too late...

Good to see your BF is still going down. I'm still hanging in there & doing cardio but can't really say that I've seriously done any full weight work-outs yet since my forearm became sore but I am trying to slowly get back into things. Don't matter anyway because I just want to get lean - 10% must feel nice eh? Good for you... :tu:

Looks like it's just us left... Don't stress too much about this challenge because I see your other stuff on here and know your still at it...

Chow for now,

Well, I think this challenge is over? Haven't had much luck with the weights over the last month or so as I developed some bad forearm pains so I stuck mostly with Cardio...

Start 05-04-07:
Morning (fasted) = 231 Lbs. Night = 234 Lbs.
Body Fat on Tanita Scale was 17 %

Now:
Morning (fasted) = 219 Lbs., Night = 222 Lbs.
Body Fat (hydrated & dry) Tanita Scale = 12 %
BF by Health Central Tape Measurement here (http://www.healthcentral.com/cooltools/nutrition/homebodyfattest.aspx) = 11.7 %

Haven't bothered with pics yet & if nobody minds terribly I'll just wait until the 7th. as that seems to be our bi-monthly pic time for our Journal...

Thanks for stickin' in there "WhO" & to anyone else from the original group of challengers decides to give us an update.

jabba - i like your basement! you could really turn that into a full gym. ...ya i know, theres too many things to spend money on and never enough money :D

any new pics for you? i want to see what that 13% looks like on ya!
glad to see you still have a strong drive going. you're going to do well. :)

JabbaTheGutt
Fri, June 3rd, 2005, 06:48 PM
Ya, we're lucky to have so much room in our basement. We're slowly working on finishing it. I put all our music instruments & gear down there last night & now we can play when the kids are busy or asleep. We still need to put up some drywall (such a messy, dusty job) but first we want to put up a fence around our yard for the little ones & our dog.

It would also be nice to get more equipment for back & legs. Right now I'm looking into getting a Mtn. bike to switch up the cardio a bit though - but nowhere as crazy as you "Lance". ;)

I plan on taking pics on the 7th. (2 month intervals) but I'm more like you because I don't want to post 'em until 7-8% but I may anyways since it may be the best thing to do.

After the ol' challenge I decided it was time to take a few days off (ended up being the last three) from cardio to change things up a bit and funny thing was I was actually the lightest this morning at 216, strange how that works as I had a whole bunch of pasta & veggie "neatballs" last night. Maybe all the extra work around the house & not starving helped. Elliptical tonight though...

I really hope some of the other original challengers report in here or we may have to change the Thread title to "The WhO & Jabba Challenge".
