The best way to tell is to determine how much nutrition you're getting for the price of the carbs. Carbs that deliver the highest nutritional value are generally the good ones. That's why refined sugar ranks so low, it delivers no nutritional value at a very high carb price. Robbyrh10 April 6th, 2005, 01:32 PM oats veggies beans fruit yams sweet taters red taters taters in general if eatin with right foods brown rice whole wheat pasta 100% ww bread fiber one others can chime in Zerone April 6th, 2005, 05:03 PM Oats=best bang for your buck (stick to Quakers) Veggies Fruit 100% whole wheat bread (check the label, many are misleading; I try to buy stoneground; the brand I get has 10g per slice I believe) You also have everything robb listed. I'm of the mentality that the more I can simplify what I buy and the less money I spend on it, the better. Not always true, but you can't beat that logic. Oats are super cheat, bananas are $0.49/lb, 20-40 slices of bread is $2-3, a huge bag of frozen broccoli at Walmart is around $5. mason April 6th, 2005, 05:42 PM broccoli spinach brussel sprouts asparagus yams brown rice whole oats ^ this is the a list of good carbs that was given to me by elliptcer. It's what I eat now. taters in general if eatin with right foods Not white potatoes! ;) A_Brown April 6th, 2005, 09:52 PM Is there a reason why many people list brown rice, but not whole grain bread as a good carb? Or, for that matter, why oats are better than whole grain breads and pastas? Thx don_1987 April 6th, 2005, 10:14 PM Is there a reason why many people list brown rice, but not whole grain bread as a good carb? Or, for that matter, why oats are better than whole grain breads and pastas? Thx Brown rice taste good :tu: Other than that, it gives you a slow-digesting carb, meaning to say you'll fill fuller, longer (supposedly). But occasionally I eat white rice (not the instant one!). The brown rice has more fiber though. Breads by no mean are bad carbs, but they have a high GI level, which will splike you insulin level to some degree, but still it's a good source of carb if you know when to eat it (PWO, for me). But you'll get hungrier sooner eating bread rather than rice. :eat: I don't know much about oats, maybe because it's the only source of good carbs which contains fiber and good fats, so it'll make you feel fuller longer, protects your heart, lower your cholestrol level, and much more. But remember to stick to natural, old fashion oats, not the one filled with excess sugar! I love oats. I religiusly eat them every breakfast :eat: |
